I got to visit the Diesels in December rally at Pahrump for a short period of time. I was there at 9:00 AM, and got to meet a number of you active posters, and some who don't post much.

Special note... richm, nice to meet ya!

Unfortunately, the dyno runs were delayed a while, and I had to take care of some truck business. I went to the local Big O tire store to locate the source of bad shake in my truck, only to find that I have NO tires that are round! New tire time...

When I got back, they had finally gotten the dyno running, after a lot of work and warming up, and I got to see some pretty impressive trucks run. Even on a dyno jet, with it's relatively short burst, the sound is amazing. For those of you who've never experienced it, hearing a Cummins pulling in excess of 500 HP up close is almost scary.

For those of you who heard Joe Donnelly's explanation about Sickly's performance, I have the real scoop for you. Back at the restaurant, Joe was wowing an audience with tales of massive boost, horsepower, and airflow. So, I penalized him 50HP for making excessively long postings about exhaust systems and airflow in multiple forums :) I'm not sure why he didn't admit to this at dyno time, but I figured the rest of you should know :)

The men running the dyno were most patient, and did their best to get as much done as possible, and so a big
YAY FOR THE GOOD GUYS
to the patient operators who had to stand out in the cold wind without complaining.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to run my truck, as I left at noon, after getting back from the tire place at about 10:45, and I got to sign up at 11:00, but there were a lot of people in line in front of me then, and they took a break at noon to eat, thaw out the dyno operators, and other assorted activities :)

I wish to commend the organizers for a great job, and for taking care of the wives... Rick Peet Dodge provided the lounge for the patient wives to stay warm and associate in while the guys were outside watching the smoke shows in the Dyno.

Special Note: Events will be better attended if they have activities or at least accomodations for the wives and other family members.

Thanks to all of you...

Good to see you're back home safe!

Now to hammer ya w/ questions:

MPG?

The Jell-o TC give any difficulty on the mtns?

Did you get round tires, or ride home on the square ones?

Wife get out to airport OK?

Was good to meet you, and even better to know that you're FINALLY properly fueled after all this time. :)

(also nice to see an old truck go to a "good home"... . what better place for a Cummins/Dodge than at a pump-tech's garage?)

---wow, that rhymes!

I had no trouble at all. I left there at noon, got home at 3:30 AM with breaks for bathroom, food, and fuel - and a dash into WalMart to get some chains just in case I got stopped.

I topped off the fuel at Armagosa Valley (indicated 18 MPG), and proceeded to set the cruise at 80+, bucking that wind, and by Hawthorne, I got close to 15. At Hawthorne, I added some Stanadyne performance formula, and the wind was less. Hawthorne to Winnemucca was about 19. Winnemucca to Baker City OR was slower, no headwind, and I made 22 MPG - still driving at 70 or more.

I drove on those eggs all the way home, since I didn't have enough money to buy tires there. Besides, here I have this as a source: www.costire.com

Check them out. Awesome prices, especially if you like Cooper tires.

When I picked up the truck in LV with Scott, working the throttle at all produced big clouds of smoke. Even there at Pahrump, after driving it for 60 miles, it still would put out a cloud.

Now, even from a standing start, running the engine through it's entire band, or even WOT in OD, it produces only a slight haze.

But, either way... a 12CM housing, open exhaust, K&N, new PW injectors, and a little timing change should make about 40 more HP without smoke.

BTW, Bombing starts tomorrow, when I pry off the sealing cap, and adjust the engine governor up a couple hundred RPM. :)

Saw the wife off to Portland at 2:00 PM today. My brain's a bit foggy, but after some real sleep on a REAL bed, I should be fine tomorrow :)

Bill, you're an optimist of the highest order...

And so am I, for that matter. I'm absolutely positive I won't be making a trip to Texas :)

Ok, enough wordplay. .

Really, it would be fun to visit a lot of events, but that's just not really possible. Ask the NW Bombers how many I get to...

:(
