Has anyone solved the problem with the fan clutch not engaging at idle? My A/C works fine as long as the vehicle is cool and/or moving down the road. If it is hot or setting at idle the compressor just cycles and I get warm air out of the vents. The A/C guy put a fan in front of the grill and the A/C worked fine. Told me the fan is not engaging. I Took it to the dealer and he replaced the fan clutch--$550... . didn't fix the problem. He then replaced the computer... ... . didn't fix the problem. I bought my 04 used last year so I didn't know the history. The dealer ran the history and it turns out this is the 3rd time the fan clutch has been replace. The A/C compressor was also replaced. The dealer has given up. I am about to give up and put a pusher fan in front of the a/c coil. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mine does that to a point. I took it to my local radiator/air shop, they said my fan clutch wasn't engaging and suggested I replace it. They also added some freon to the system which seemed to help. I took it to the dealer and they said the fan was functioning fine. Still have the issue until I get moving. I thought about adding fans for the condensor, I just dont want to obstruct air to the rest of the system when at freeway speeds.

There was a flash available some time back that changed the fan strategy, you might want to check for software up dates. The TSB# is 18 003 04

I asked about the flash they said that it wasn't applicable. Then oh by the way the replaced the whole computer... ... still didn't work... ... frustration.

I think I'm going to add a pusher fan in the front. There was another thread that someone had added a thin fan in between... . I'll probably just do that. It doesn't take much air flow to make the a/c work. The dealer is asking for dodge to send out a field rep to troulbeshoot... . not holding my breath. The only saving grace is that the dealer is covering the $2600 under warranty with 58K miles.

I just had a seal on the compressor go after feeling warm air at idle... compressor replaced under warranty, thank goodness. . Service guy said they had seen a few of these recently, so make sure they check this out...

Yeah same here on the new compressor. Truck is not even a year old and the compressor gave out. The dealer replaced the compressor and vacummed the system and loaded the CORRECT amount of freon. The dealer has a new system that can measure the correct amount of freon which in my opinion is the root cause for so many AC issues we are experiencing. This might not apply to you BSwayne but there are others out there who are having AC issues. I can tell you that my AC is working much better than before!!! My . 02

Problem solved. The fan was not working at all (never overheated). The wire harness wraps around the frame about 18 inches from were it connects to the bottom of the radiator. 3 of the 5 wires were worn in two (inside the wire protector). Apparently it didn't show up on the diagnostic computer.

WOW looks ike a place to add some wire loom to for some added protection, good to hear that it is asimple fix. Just crummy that it took so much work to iron it out. . Oo. Ive got a similar story with a cummins dealership here in Elko, in reguard to a NEW fire truck and shifting into pump but no remote throttle. 6 hours at the shop, reflashing the computer, tracking down wires, tearing apart wire looms on a new custom chassis fire truck. 4 hours on the phone with the body mfc. ( central states fire) and the chassis builder( HME) . still no pump. Get back to the station, find a loose ground in the dash that would not allow the system to activate the remote throttle on the engine to get any pressure out of the fire pump. oh well S&^%$ happens I guess.
