Whenever you turn A/C switch to change direction of air, the air continues to blow at feet. I've checked both vacuum lines and found no cracks and seem to be a snug fit. Any suggestions ??????

Check your vacuum lines from the pump (just behind the Power Steering pump) going up to the firewall. If any of those are broken (rotted) or disconnected you won't have vacuum to change the blend door position.

The vacuum line at the passenger side firewall(the end of the vacuum line) is the one that controls the doors, at least in the 2nd gen trucks. Pull it off and put your finger on it while the truck is running and see if it sticks to your finger, if not trace the lines back till you find vacuum.
If the vacuum line is broken, usually it will default to defrost and floor only.
Mine usually gets knocked off at the pump itself.
Good luck

What DFerverda said - without vacuum drive the system defaults to a base setting that must include defrost - thats a weird NHTSA regulation. Do you have cruise control? 4WD? these are vacuum driven functions on our trucks. If not don't panic - I've heard alot of vacuum pump rebuild stories - but several times I've had the check valve in the line out from the pump hang up - and a shot of WD-40 or equiv gets 30+ inches of vacuum back!!. Pull the large coupling off the pump and shoot a blast inside - there should then be vacuum.

I've had the blend-door problem for some time and just found that my cruise doesn't work. Does this mean my problem is vacuum related and not a broken blend-door?

Thx, Joe

I learned that the easy way, when I drove home from a dealer service of fuel filter I had no upper air, they accidentally pulled a hose off, somewhere around the fuel filter as I recall. Quick and easy fix, slip the hose back on.
