I'm having problems with the 20amp fuse for the A/C clutch blowing. That fuse is located in the PCM box, and also powers the horn. The circuit handles the horn OK, but the fuse blows when the A/C is turned on. If the relay for the A/C clutch were bad it doesn't seem like it would be blowing the fuse. The only other thing I can think of is that the A/C clutch is frozen up. If so, is there a way to fix it without having to R&R. Are there any other electrical connections between the fuse and the A/C clutch to check? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I guess the relay could short internally and blow the fuse but the current load of the clutch goes through the fuse. If you have access to an amp meter you need to hook it up at the clutch and see how much current the clutch coil is pulling when engaged. I don't think the current would be different if the clutch is locked up. If the clutch coil is bad, yes you can change it without discharging the system and with minimum of tools. bg

Thanks for the responses and suggestions. I've tried switching out the relay, and the fuse still blows. Next, I'll pull the connection at the a/c clutch to see if the fuse still blows. If so then I guess I have a wiring problem, if not then looks like maybe the clutch will need to be replaced. If that's the case might as well buy the clutch and the compressor as a unit.
