2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission A.C. Comp viscosity??

Have a '97 and need to replace the A. C. compresser. The data tag near the radiator says 2# 134a full charge; oil PAG SP-20. The PAG means Poly Alkylene Glycol; what does the SP-20 mean? I assume it is a viscosity rating. The parts place has high, medium and low viscosity oils. The cans give an ISO viscosity number but no reference to SP. What is the proper viscosity to use??

Which I use a lot - you need and ISO 100 oil.



Now, if you are replacing the compressor - to do it right you should also replace the accumulator. Why are you replacing the compressor - did it grenade out? If so, you will need to flush the system. I can't remember if the condensor is a multipass - but if it is - you will need to replace it.

Compresser replacement

Clutch went bad. Decided to replace entire compresser and clutch assembly as a unit. Cost and amount of work for entire unit was only slightly more than clutch alone.
