A/C suddenly blew warm Monday, with heat indices in the mid to high 90's here in south Florida. I found the three "flex plate" like tabs broken on the clutch plate. The compressor shaft rotates freely with a socket. Can I remove the clutch plate without unbolting the compressor and using the special tools shown in the manual? Can the clutch plate be purchased separately? Any and all info and/ or tips would be much appreciated, as it is hot as Hades here. Thanks to all for your help.

Yes

The clutch can be purchased seperatly. If i were you i would buy the field coil to go with the clutch. Try Napa or another parts supplier, you may have to go back tto dealer to get your parts seperatly.

You might also want to look at prices for aftermarket compressors.

To loosen the nut holding the clutch plate on use a jumper wire and jump the relay for the clutch before removing the belt.

Thanks 01smokinram and great tip kaffene krazed. After posting this I engaged my overheated brain and did a forum search. I found answers to my questions as usual. Thanks, TDR.

FYI, I bought the clutch kit from my local dealer for $199. It is an entire new clutch with new field coil with wire and connector, a new rotor assy (pulley, bearing, clutch surface, and a new clutch plate). Considered that I paid $25 for a short 1/4 threaded throttle rod, this quality stuff appears to be a good deal. It even comes with new snap rings, woodruff key, nut, wire clip, and assorted shims.
