I took the truck to a shop last week to have the A/C looked at and was told the compressor was leaking from a front seal. They said $1200. 00 just for the compressor, plus install and R-134. Does this sound a bit high or is that about in line. This was not a Dodge dealer shop.

I know my sig. shows we live in the NW but we are doing some time here in Yuma, sunshine and all that good stuff...

Thanks for any help or advice. Larry

Were you dressed up real nice to make the shop think you were RICH???
A compressor can be resealed if you have the right shop. I would check at the dealer to see what a new or reman compressor costs. $1200. 00---- what a JOKE!!

They all leak a small amount at the front seal. Doubtful that is the real problem, way too high for just compressor replacement. I would go to different shop and see about a leak test, if no other leaks are found, recharge system and see how long it takes to leak down. By the way, I,m not the expert on AC system but I did pick up a few pointers in working on them for 35 years. bg

Lets start with more of a root cause here...

Why did you take in to have the AC checked in JAN ?? Is it that warm in Yuma that you need AC?

Then, go as quickly as you can away from that shop. They are trying to take advantage of you in the worst way. Whats even worse, is that I bet they wouldn't even fix the root cause with a quote like that...

Gents, thanks for the response. Motorhead, wranglers and T-shirt is as dressed as I get - I think he saw the out of state plates and thought, Ah-ha, a sucker.

They did a leak test, or at least they told me they did. I did have it recharged so we will see how long it lasts. I would guess after 35 years you are an expert!

Yes, sometimes it is warm enough down here to use the A/C. 86 last week and the truck was sitting for a long time in the sun so it got hot inside. Turned the A/C on to cool things off and guess what - warm air.

I will look into it more when I get home. Maybe I can find someone who can re-seal it.

Thanks again guys... Larry
