Need to change out the dryer in the A/C system. What is the easiest procedure for seperating the connectors to the lines? Since these haven't been moved in about 15 years, should I drip a little penetrating oil on them ahead of time? How are the connectors designed?

napa and other auto parts have tools for releasing the fittings they are about 10 bucks for the set . and they work well . good luck . be sure to purge the system after and drain it before.

Do not use any oil... ... remove the safety latch covering the connector then after reclaimimg the r 134 use the quick release tool as mentioned above. There is a "garter belt" type spring inside that the tool will release.

Like everyone else said. Get the tools made for releasing the line. It will be a bugger to work loose and oil will not help because it won't go past the Oring. Just work it slow and easy and it will come off eventually. It just takes a little muscle.

No reason to replace it unless the system has been opened for repair or damaged from collision, etc. Automatic if compressor is being replaced.
