A/C controling engine fan.

I have seen in several forums that the engine cooling fan is engaged while the A/C is on. Now is the fan continusely ran or cycled with some sort of a switch. Starting engine and allowing it to idle with the a/c on the fan moves no more air than with the a/c off. A/C cooling while sitting still is very poor.



The main reason I ask this question is that ECT runs fairly hot with a heavy load. I never hear the fan running.

Just wondering if the clutch is bad.

It does engage the fan via the ECM. If it is warm out, a/c on high especially with no recirc, it does engage the engine fan. It seems to have a couple of speeds which it will run. I do feel it does not engage it soon enough and keep the fan running long enough. Hopefully there will be a flash for this.

Thanks for the info. I will play around with the a/c and see if I can get the fan to engage. May have to make a trip to the dealer and let them check it out.

My '03 acted the same way. The dealer flashed the PCM and it's never done it again.
