Clutch died on the compressor today after 222222 miles on the clock. We still are in the triple digits here, truck is parked now driving Ford Taurus.
So far I can get my compressor rebuilt for $229 and $59 for the drier, still need lic. tech to install it.
So anybody know what this is going to set me back?

Thanks

I have been reading and sweating about this all morning.

It looks like the clutch is serviceable. But in your case you will probably want to do the compressor. Did the compressor shell?

Here are some links I have been reading:

Here is a strange problem... . If fixed mine this morning. Never seen this one before:

I was reading somewhere that the dealer will want $1250. 00 to replace the compressor, plus the charge, plus enviromental fees!! What a bunch of crap!

I was also reading they charged him $78. 00 to diagnose plus a $8. 00 enviromental fee.

That sounds like an ok deal on Your compressor rebuild. The hard part will be finding someone you can trust to install the components and charge the system.

Check your yellow pages for a mobile A/C recharge service. I had a local guy come to my house and discharge/recharge my truck for $100. He said he does a lot of jobs where he discharges the system so the owner can make the repairs and then comes back to recharge the system.

Look for a company call A. I. R just bought a new a/c compressor with clutch for right around $325 don't remember the exact cost but I was surprised how in-expensive it was.

If you can't find a mobile a/c service in your area most shops will evacuate the system for you then you can r&r the parts that need replacing return to the shop for a recharge.
