Would someone please give me a quick rundown on how to read AC guages. I'm thinkin' of buying a set. Thanks

Dan

The set will have 2 gages 2 valves and three hoses. Low press hose goes to low press shrader, high press hose goes to high press schrader, middle hose goes to recovery equip or vac pump or refrigerant cylinder. The gages will show pressure of the system during operation. A tempurature/pressure chart is needed to convert pressure to the corrisponding temp of the refrigerant. Most gages have that chart built in to the face plate of the gage so you can convert from press to temp by looking at the needle.

So with this setup you can see the temp of your evaperator by pressure at the gage. (minus corrections for superheat and thats a whole nuther story)

There is a charging chart in the DC service manual that tells you to hold the engine at a specified rpm with ac on and you measure the outside temp. It then tells you what suction pressures \temps you should see. If its below that add refrigerant till its at spec.

hope that helps Bill
