It's now the time where I'm in lamp replacement mode... First a headlight, fog light, tail light, license plate light and now the lamps in the A/C Heat control are burning out. I went to my local auto parts store and they couldn't find a reference for these lamps. I then spoke to my Dodge dealer and they gave me a Dodge part number, but I don't want to pay the 2. 87/bulb price. I was told that the generic part number hasn't been released to the general public just yet. I was wondering if anyone has been able to cross-reference these bulbs to those from another vehicle so I can get some replacements. While I have the center dash torn apart, I might as well replace all of the bulbs, since it's a big job to get to the point where I can take the bezel off.

Also, while I have it torn apart, I have a CB mounted on the dash and would like to route the power down to the A/C control area instead of having the power cable running down the front of the dash and plugged into the acc. 12V connector. I thought I could lift the top dash cover and route the wire from the top. Does anyone know what sort of obstacles there will be (hidden panels, etc)?

Thanks for helping... this is a great place for information.

Under that plastic topper is just the substructure for the dash. There's nothing that would obstruct you from running wiring underneath it. I've routed some wiring through that area with no problems. The top just pops off and on - it's held in place with metal retaining clips (thank God, they're not plastic!).

Regarding the bulbs, have you pulled the old bulbs out yet and taken them to the auto shop to see if any come close?

I'm not sure what year your truck is but my HVAC lights just went out in my 05. Dealer said that the lights are not replacable, that the whole control unit needs to be replaced. Mine was done under warranty. He said it would have been big $$ otherwise.

I'm planning on tearing out the plastic topper as soon as I have some free time. The service manual states that a special trim removal tool is needed to remove the topper, but I could probably use something like a putty knife if I'm careful.

As far as the HVAC lights go, the dealer has replacements for $2. 87/bulb, so I don't think that whole module needs to be changed. I know that the entire headlight switch had to be replaced when the bulb burned out, but was covered under warranty. I'll be tearing out the HVAC area at the same time I do the wiring for the CB, so I'll take it in to the auto parts store to see if I can match up the bulbs. I'll keep you posted on what I find out.

A trim stick would work nicely, but is not required. I used a flat-blade screwdriver. No damage.

Has anyone come up with a part number for the heater control or dash light bulbs since this rather old thread was started?

I need to tear into the dash to do the heater treater door replacement thing and have some burned out dash bulbs that need replaced.

Thanks,
Blake

I went to radio shack and just grabbed some small 12v lamps. They're soldered in, but without the bulb condoms to give them the correct color. I don't care that much.
