A coworker has a 2005 3500 QC and was telling me that sometimes the a/c output on the right side is pretty weak - but its only intermittant. I was thinking a blend door might be hanging up but I figured I better consult the 3rd gen gurus before I try and show off by diagnosing his problem. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

-Vic

I'm definitely not a guru, but I've had the problem since new. Just had it in the shop and is fine now. It was low on R-134a, from the factory I guess, because the leak detector dye never showed up. The passenger side is affected by this but the drivers side was not.

I had a similar problem (but it was with the whole AC, not just the pass. side) with my truck this summer right before I was taking a road trip out to Vegas. I took it in to my local dealer and they told me the problem, then I took it to a friend of mine (who just opened his own shop) and he fixed it for about 1/2 the price (around $180 since the warranty was up). I'm not really good with the technical terms, but I'm trying to learn. I think it was a resonator or a relay switch or something electrical like that which had shorted out. I'll try to find out from him tomorrow what exactly it was and get back to you. It's worked like a charm ever since he fixed the problem.

A/C problems

My '03 Quad Cab SLT began having problems similar to those mentioned above,

also freezing up at highway speeds. I delayed several weeks due to the

probable costs involved, since it was out of warranty, 58,000 miles and

about 40 months old. However, I got tired manually operating the A/C switch

and took it in. I called Chrysler's customer service number in the Op. Manual,

stayed on the phone a long time due to the process but DC paid all of the

approx. $1300, except for $200 I had to pay. A new Evaporator, recirculation

door, sensor, freon, dye leak, etc. They didn't argue, I had to wait about 2 hrs.

after the truck was repaired for the shop and customer service to communicate

after the bill was figured.

If you try this this I recommend that you "suck" up to them, I've done this

before on my daughter's Jeep and was pricked around by a female agent, but

I just took it, she paid $1000 on the Jeep for me.

We have had this problem since last spring. The truck is still under warranty. The dealer indicated they had other 2005 3500 QC's with the same problem and that they did not know what to do.

A few weeks ago, we had the dealer, again, check the temperatures and the right side was 14 degrees warmer than the left side. The dealer repeated that they did not know what to do to fix the problem.

So, I called Dodge warrantly people. Like our dealer, they were wonderful to deal with. They have authorized a pursue to fix level of work. We are trying to figure out when we can give them the truck to work on.

Apparently, from a warranty perspective, if the difference is 12 degrees or less, they do not feel compelled to do anything. In our instance, we are past that point.

I'll report the specific problem if they identify one after it is fixed.

Good luck!

This was probably your blower motor resistor. If your ac works at high but nothing else (or at some fan levels and not others) then the blower motor resistor is a good place to start. I had this problem on my '99 1500. I think it was about a $60 part.

21 page or so thread on this issue at www.dieseltruckresource.com This issue can be as simple as low charge and it only has to be slightly down to muxch more costly issues. There is a new orfice/line out that should/may help cooling at lower speeds. But the 12 degree differance from left to right is B. S. also a thread on HERE further down. MEGA CAB weak ac.
