2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission A/C leaking

I took my truck in for A/C service and they found a leak in the evaporater core and accumulator. They said $1200 to repair. It takes about 2 months to leak out. Here in Erie I need it about 3-4 months out of the year (about 4 days this year). Is it possible to charge it up with the autozone stuff a few times a year or does the system need pumped to a vacuum?

I have the same problem mine leaks out also, one dealer said he wont touch it for under $200 just to look at it and the other said $90 I still did nothing with it.

Mine leaks too it takes bought 2 months, but me and my brother always pick up a few cans of coo-let from the parts store and charge it up. I bought a kit with the a gage and a can of coolent from Wal Mart for around $25 it is made by Dynamics and includes 1 can of coolant. When I need to recharge I go to Pep Boys and get the small 8 oz cans that say leak sealer included a can usually coasts around $6, the can will be all white with some black and red lettering saying sealer included.

That's what I like to hear! I can buy a boatload of $6 cans with $1200 About how many cans will it take to recharge? BTW how many miles on your truck that it isn't fixed under warranty(being a 2001 and all)?

My truck is a 2000 tilted as a 2001 and it only has 24,000 on it, and it is out of warty. If you buy the kit with the gage I think you get a 12 or 16 oz can with it. Dose your A/C work at all? If the compressor keeps kicking on and off really fast then you should need the big can that comes with the kit and one small can that should do.

Hey it never hurts to buy a few cans, they cant go bad. Just read the directions that come with the gage and it is also color coded so you dint over charge it or under charge it. Like I said before if the compresses is kicking on and off really fast I'm thinking 2 cans, if it ant worken at all probably 3 cans.
