Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) A/c pump blowing fuses

I'm kinda jumping the gun here a bit due to the fact I havn't unpluged the compressor to see if its a wiring problem, but I did spray lube the front mechanism & its free. Always has been.

Anytime I select A/C the darn fuse blows.

The system is still full of freon.

About 90K in this truck, do you spose its time to gut the compressor & rebuild it ? Any tips on this would be great !

Extremely likely that one of wires in the clutch harness has worn thru and is touching the compressor body. Check your wiring first.

Yep, shorted right @ the harness stay clip on the pump body.

So I took apart the harness & found what looks like a diode or resistor blown. The center is completely gone, just two legs (one on ea. wire).



Anyone know what that is so I can replace it ?

It is a blocking diode to keep electrical surge from entering the wiring when the field in the clutch coil collapses when power cycles off. All AC's have theem, you might get one at a salvage yard. Hope that solves the problem? bg

Ok, so can I solder a new diode in there ?

Sure I can, does anyone know what path it takes & what amperage goes there ? 15 A ?
