Guys my fathers 2006 CTD, 4wd, with 55K on it, the a/c just stopped working. I checked all the fuses, and finally unplugged the battery. It would then make about three cycles then quit(blowing cold air, just hot air). Took it to the ******* today, and they are claiming that the whole fuse box is melted and I need a new compressor for a mear $1600 bucks. If everything else is fine I do not see how the whole fuse box could be melted. The unit will blow its just hot air. Any advice would be great thanks for your help

Sudden loss of A/C sounds familiar. Never heard of a 3rd gen melting a fuse panel. If the blend door breaks the reduced air flow could, among other issues, cause the A/C compressor to short cycle. Do a TDR search on "blend door", lots of posts, some with pictures. Very common 3rd gen problem. I'd look there before looking at anything else.

Except for mine has no reduction in air flow,. its just hot air. It will cycle one or twice if you unhook the battery cables.

The idiot Dodge techs told me I had a bad compressor too, but after replacing it with one off Ebay for $200 shipped I figured out on my own it was the $25 high pressure switch. Try jumping the relay in the box and if it cools it is not the compressor. The switch takes 5 minutes to switch and does not require the refrigerant to be removed. Get a second opinion before you spend lots of money on parts.

Ok still not willing to give in to the *******, I spent all weekend working on the A/C. replcaced high psi sensor, and still nothing. The compressor is now were it will not enguage. So I checked the wires going to the compressor, and they were powered with 11. 86 volts. This was a good thing, however when i took out the a/c fuse, and most other fuses it still had power. My question is, should the a/c compressor always have power? Or is this why the dealer was telling me that my fuse box was out? Thanks for your help thus far. I am going to go ahead and buy a compressor and just watch it and make sure that it kicks out. Thanks again

one thing else, i did pull the clutch off and take a shim out of it, incase it was worn, and cleaned it really well, still nothing. And the A/C had over 140psi on the system, i am not an a/c man, but that seems a little high, but i have no ideal how presure could have gotten into the closed system, the power to the a/c is my main concern at this point,

Sorry to hear of your AC issues. For what its worth I too have an 06 of which the compressor quit on me at 34k!! It appears the unit burned up internally... . basically I could smell something like an electrical fire and them BAM the compressor quite running. Note: The unit didnt seize however it would not engage. I took it to the dealer where they replaced the unit and all is well. Just this week my buddy and I took his 06 truck in the dealer because his compressor was basically on its way to "locking up". When engaged the compressor would place some serious load on the motor. It appears his front seal was going bad in addition to the main bearing (hard to turn). Not real comforting that these units would go bad with less than 50k on them. Good luck!

Southbound, I just had the same problem as you - internal burn-up. Aside from replacing the compressor, did either you or your buddy have the clutch and/or the pulley replaced? (maybe your detailed receipt has other items noted)

my a/c comp went about two weeks ago at 130k miles. just up and quit, no signs at all except hot air. go to trademotion.com, the a/c comp is like $250. and it is an oem part it's actually a mopar parts website. hope this helps

OK, Ya'll have me nervous now... . I've noticed that the first time I turn the a/c on every day. The clutch seems to "crash" engage. I've just assumed that it was surface rust on the clutch surface. Guess I will pay more attention to it in the future.

Already had the damper door fall off while on vacation. That was miserable.
