Had to change the heater core. It was an experience I do not wish to re-experience, but...

Not only did the dash top disintegrate and the dash cracked in several places (none visible when completely assembled), but now I can not switch from heat to AC, and it's HOT. I have bypassed the heater core for now, so I get some cool air not at the rate that I should. I think the solenoid door is not moving.

Is there an easy way to check if the door is moving?

Is there an easier way to replace the solenoid than removing the dash again?

I am having similar issues (i. e. the blend door is staying in the defrost position regardless of where the selector is positioned). I'm new here and looking for a thread that details a quick fix or the dreaded long fix of removing the HVAC. Any help is appreciated.

Do a search on Google for Dodge Ram blend door fix, the actuator is plastic and strips, you can buy the metal one and fix it while unit is installed, instructions on site that sells fix.

TDaub, on 2nd gen 12 valves the blend door is controled by a cable, if it has a cable make sure it is attached to the actuator. the 2nd gen 24 valve mite have electric actuator.

CowboyWitczak, when there is a vacuum leak, pinched vacuum line or bad switch the default setting is Defrost. Look for vacuum line damage at firewall passenger side of engine.

BLEND-AIR DOOR MOTOR

The blend air door servo motor must be accessed by removal of the heater-A/C housing as described in the removal procedures that follow.

WARNING: ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AIRBAGS, Refer to PASSIVE RESTRAINT SYSTEMS BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN, OR INSTRUMENT PANEL COMPONENT DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE. FAILURE TO TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.

REMOVAL

Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.

Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly in the Removal and Installation section of Instrument Panel Systems for the procedures.

Remove the heater-A/C housing from the vehicle. Refer to Heater-A/C Housing Removal and Installation in this section for the procedure.

Unplug the wire harness connector from the servo motor. Blend Air Door Motor Remove/Install

Remove the two mounting screws which secure the motor to the housing.

Remove the blend air door motor from the housing.

INSTALLATION

Before installing the blend air door motor, be certain that the blend air door is not binding.

Reverse the removal procedures to install. Tighten the servo motor mounting screws to 2. 2 N*m (20 in. lbs. )
