I know the A/C is not on everyones mind right now, but I would like to alter mine. I would like to have mine run on a thermostat like a home A/C. It erks me to pay for fuel to compress freon on a "warm" day only to have to turn up the temp dial and warm the air up a little to keep from freezing. I would like the A/C to cycle on and off acording to the temp in the cab. Do cars that have thermostats cycle the compressor or do they vary the amount of water through the heater coil? What type of thermostat would I use and where would I mount it?

Posm, the old under dash units had the thermostat in the cold air stream right in front of the evap. coil. I think you could do it on the return air on max. but when you're taking in outside air that would'nt work, could also mount it in the cooled area like home thermostat but the air outlet is probably the choice place. Some of the older high dollar cars had thermostat control but most of the ones today use the (little more hot water system to control temp. ) If you get into this, you could cycle the comp. by tying into the comp. clutch cycling switch on the receiver dryer.
