When I took my truck to the dealer, I was told that some tube was closing off and then reopening after I turned off the a/c switch inside of 5 minutes. It appeared to me that the condensor was freezing up and then reopening after turning
the fan on while in a heat setting. dealer quoted $355. to replace this tube which runs across in front of the radiator.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't need the a/c here in S.D. in the winter, but we might try to go down south, in which case we would need it.

If you know a reputable AC mechanic I would have him check out the system. The tube the dealer is mentioning is the orifice tube and should not have anything in the system to plug it. I think you are correct that the evaporator is icing up but it could be that the system is just low on refrigerant or the solid state temp switch on the face of the evaporator is not working (assuming your truck is 03 or newer). bg

Thank you. I did not feel comfortable with the $ 350 charge i was quoted for this work. My truck is an early '03.

That does seem very heavy. The local dealer only charged me $445 to replace all the HVAC doors with Heatertreater parts- and that included the E&R of the AC system. The job was perfect, couldn't tell the truck was touched.
