Dealer wants $1K to fix it again. Is there any other options. Dash is also cracked so I will want to fix/replace it @ the same time. What would you do??

what im talking about is that when I move the air control to feet/defrost/etc it doesnt change. It has something to do with the vent control/the flap as I understand it... But heck I will tackle most anything but ripping out the whole dash..... Do I think I can get it back right?? But then again did or can they.

I'll check these solution ASAP and repost. I do think this is going to fix my problem!! Thanks everyone!!

If you can adjust the temperature by using the temp control knob it's not the blend door. If you can tell a difference in the amount of air coming out of the vents when you switch to recirc from fresh air it's not the recirc door. If you have air coming out of the front dash vents, and the above two conditions I mentioned are true, but you can't switch from the front dash vents to either defrost or the floor vents it's Mode Door 1. If you can switch from the front vents to either the defrost of floor vents, but can't switch from floor vents to defrost, or defrost to floor it's Mode Door 2. Heater Treater says that Mode Door 1 is usually the first door to go, but Mode Door 2 is the hardest to replace. I believe I am having trouble with Mode Door 1 now, but it has been intermittent since winter. The Heater Treater solution will be my choice when I get around to fixing it. They say that you don't have to evacuate the HVAC system with their method, and also say that their repair was done by a 70+ year old woman, so it can't be too difficult. In reading their site I got the impression that the job involved using a Dremel tool to cut away part of the plenum box and attach their door to the cut-out area. They say one guy did it by heating a hot knife and cutting it out, but I would probably go with the Dremel tool. Hey, it's a good excuse to buy one if you don't already own one, and they really do come in handy.
