Went on vacation last month for a week (in my wifes car) and when I got back the A/C was dead. I though the truck was mad at me.

Took it to the dealer and found that I have a leak in the evaporator coil. They want $650+ to replace it. Has anyone else had this problem and or is there a service recall that they may not be aware of?

The truck has 42k mile on it and it is no longer covered under warrranty.

Figures

I am having the same problem with my 98. 5. I have ordered the parts (evap $150 and accumulator $60) and am doing mine this weekend. There is no way I could afford to have a dealer do mine, didn't even bother to get a quote.

Check out this thread from a few days ago

And this one from jsimpson

AC Thread 2

jsimpson has done it before and he gave me some useful information. I will post on how things went once I finish the install this weekend. Wish me luck.

Mine was replaced today, thank god for extended warranty. Too bad I wasted the savengs on smashing it up on the way home. Now it needs the entire front nose and ALL the fron coolers, including the $650. oo radiator and $795 Intercooler. . Ouch... at lkeast no paint work.

Well as I see from the latest posts that there are a lot of bad evaporator coils in Dodge trucks. I priced out the parts which were less than $150 so I think I'll change it out myself. It is late in the summer so I'll nurse it along till fall and then give it a shot.

I wonder how many coils have to go bad in order to get a recall?!

Thanks again for the support! It really does pay to be a TDR member!!! :)
