I am fairly new to this forum, and for that matter, new to the world of diesels. About two years ago, I was in the market for a vehicle and I found an 89 w250 in awesome condition. I started it up on the lot and I fell in love--went to the bank and got a loan the next day! Anyhow, I have started adding some stuff here and there and I have a couple questions about what I need to do.

The front end was replaced several years ago and has an intercooler on it, but it is not hooked up at all. How do I go about doing that? Where do I find all the parts? Are there any videos/instructions that are explained simply enough so that I can understand it?

The 2nd thing I would like to know is how to hook up a tachometer. I have poured through this forum, but haven't found anything that says "buy this tach from this place and here's how you hook it up. " I know that's tedious, but if I can't see it being done, I pretty much need a step-by-step set of instructions to do it.

Thanks for yall's help! Looking forward to learning a bunch!

Welcome to TDR!! Couple things.....

First, the intercooler. You'll need a new turbo, easiest thing. A later model turbo, say off of a 94-02 would be easiest to install and plumb to the intercooler... . There is also a housing (elbow) that turns off the bottom of the later models that you'll need to route it to the intercooler, as well as the tube. Boost tubing can be used, as well as regular tubing, but it all needs to be close to 3"OD. Then you'll need the tube for the driver side from the intercooler to the intake. Then you'll need the intake and intake horn... . I'd recommend an aftermarket if you can't find a factory... . You need the later model intake to clear the brake master cylinder when routing the intercooler hoses. The boots and clamps are easy to find around wrecking yards, if they handle the older trucks..... If you happen to find the filter housing, I'd say grab it, too, as the later models are quite a bit larger than the earlier.....

Now, for the tach. Being an '89, you won't have the wiring in the dash, so you'll need to check and see if the sending unit/sensor is on the engine, just above the harmonic dampener. If it is, you can order the parts from ISSPRO... ... . http://isspro.mybigcommerce.com/r8912-92/

If it's not there, then go with the (you may want to do this for simplicity's sake, anyway) http://isspro.mybigcommerce.com/r8912/

and then you can pick out a tach you like..... http://isspro.mybigcommerce.com/electrical-tachometers/

Before I hooked up a used aftercooler to my engine, I'd thoroughly check it out, especially if it sat uncorked in a wrecking yard for a while. No telling what might have ended up inside it.

What do you mean "front end was replaced"? As in it was upgraded to the 91-93 grille, radiator support etc? Or front end as in suspension and they also tried to install an intercooler? My next question would be (and you might have to post a pic to get info) what kind of intercooler? OEM Dodge or perhaps 7. 3L Ford Powerstroke intercooler?

Maybe you can just remove the intercooler and forget about it instead of going through a bunch of money/time since it's a ways off from being functional. Maybe your time and money could be better spent elsewhere on the truck. Just my 2 cents. :D
