Unfair justice

importing a car from Japan

Guy at my station has a 2000 model 1/2 ton Dodge truck with V6.

People at Quicky Lube place told him the fuel filter was in the tank. I crawled under there for a look and I sure don't see one anywhere.

Where is the fuel filter at on one of those trucks?

Kevin

Fuel filter is in the fuel tank attached to the fuel pump assembly. It should not need changed unless he has got a load of crap laying in tank from getting a bad load of fuel that was loaded with foriegn particles. If the pump needs replaced the whole assembly is sold intact and as one... ... ... . Andy

My '99 service manual shows a combination fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator outside the tank on top of the fuel pump module. It also says they are "designed for extended service" and "do not require normal scheduled maintenance"

There is also a screen inside the tank on the pump.

FYI, The fact that the fuel filter can last the life of the truck is due to the "returnless" fuel system. In the past, the fuel pump worked at full volume and the pressure regulator on the fuel rail sent the un-needed fuel back to the tank. In the "new" system the regulator is in the tank also and the fuel delivery system anoly handles the fuel the engine is actually going to use. Since the fuel is only flowing through the filter once, it stays cleaner. I'd rather have the old system as the injectors get a cleaner supply of fuel.

cheap gasser parts

My cousin`s truck,97 xc w/360, just ate a fuel pump friday. He is always raggin on me about everything for the diesel being expensive to replace. Well, the list price from DC for his fuel pump/fuel filter assy is $560 bucks!!!!!!! So much for gasser parts being cheaper by a bunch. Truck only has 75K on the clock.
