Every so often, I have a hard time turning my steering wheel, mainly at a stop or low speeds. It acts like my power steering pump is going out. A little right foot seems to help. Also, I've been having trouble with my sbc dd. I push in the clutch and it doesn't want to let loose or allow me to go into gear. It seems more evident when my power steering is acting up. Are these two related, or just seperate instances?

You don't say how many miles on the truck...

Think about when your on dry surfaces with your truck in 4WD...

That sort of resistance and wheel hop as you start a turn.

If your feeling that, think about the action of a bad front ujoint at the knuckle.....

My 05 with 80K just went through this...

Seems the 2nd generation trucks were noted to have a weak power steering pump/vacuum pump combo that would cause the power steering to seem weak when the brakes were applied - wonder if that carried over to the 3rd generation trucks?

111,xxx miles. Its not like having it in 4 wheel drive and trying to turn. Its like having no power steering. You can hear the pump straining as you are trying to turn it.

With, or without brakes applied - such as at a stoplight preparing to turn or make a lane change? As I mentioned earlier, that was sort of a common complaint with some 2nd generation trucks - applying brakes while attempting to turn did as you describe...

Mine does the same thing. You're feeling a slight stutter and a resistance on the wheel when you try to turn the tires when you're sitting still or just barely moving, right? I've checked my fluid and changed my belt and it still does it. It feels like it really puts a strain on the motor / PS system when I try to turn the wheel on dry pavement while sitting still or slightly moving.

I have an 07, and shortly after purchase I started having this same symptom. The dealer changed the PS pump to a completely different style unit with a different reservoir type too. The wheel is now as easy to dial around at a stop as any other time. I'd venture that the PS pump is at fault in your case as well. In any case, get it taken care of, since a low output PS pump will not only affect steering, but brake boost as well!

285/70/17s. And the clutch kit said the hydraulics are optional. John at Floor IT said that if I needed the upgrade I'd know it because my pedal would go dead.

Right on the money on this one.

just had my 30,000 mile work done (all fluids) on my '05, Dealer also replaced AC compressor (leak, 3rd time truck worked on for Crappy AC) and replaced the power steering pump based on wimpy/intermittent jerky operation at low speed when cold.

Not to complain, but now that I'm out of bumper-to-bumper warranty I've found door gaskets torn on both sides, my cab lights leak/ condensing on inside and the friggin lumbar support for drivers seat fell apart.

See if you can get a steering pump if you're still under warranty
