Ok, I got 3 gauges, Trans temp, pyro and boost all on the a-pillar, all plumbed to the engine and now I need to hook them up to electricity.

I have a 7 circuit painless wiring block from Geno's on the way and plan to use that for just straight power but I would like to hook the gauge light's up so that I can dimm them with the rest of my dash lights.

I've been searching on this forum for the last 3 days and haven't found the answer so now I'm asking for help.

What do I hook them to ?

The reason being is I recieved my Blue Chip FMS and am ready to install that but I want to get all my guages working before so that I can tell the differences before and after.

Also I'm working on getting an ATS performance transmission and triplelok tc towards the end of this month but that's another story.

BTW, sorry about the post in "Truck 911" I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to posting to this forum.

Thanks in advance

Some people hook to the wire going to the ash tray light. Some tap into the instrument panel lighting wire coming off the back of the headlight switch. I chose to use a mini-fuse tap in the fuse box at the left end of the dashboard - I don't have the truck with me today, but you'll find one fuse in that box labeled "ILLUM" or something like that. If you tap into that circuit, that's the dash lighting! :D

(Edit: I'm sure ILLUM isn't the right designation, but between the key on the fuse panel door and the owner's manual, maybe you can figure out which fuse it is. )

I'm same as you 99 etc.

Used

#5 - ILLUM. for lights - works of the interior light dimmer, and

#8 - RADIO for power - works with key on only.

Ground anywhere. If you haven't gotten the wires in the cab yet go thru the big rubber plug where the clutch linkage would go thru the firewall. Just seal it up with silicon when done.

Bomb on!

Please correct me if I'm wrong..... (duck;) ) I do not believe this degree of functionality is available on your set-up... .

Ok, I don't know how to tap out of the fuse panel (which is what i'd rather do) so I've decided to use the ash tray light, but I cant tell which one is hot, the orange one or the dark one with the lighter stripe.

I know... I'm no electrician.

Umm... specifically what functionality are you referring to?

Sorry, did not mean to confuse you - You may wish to consider wiring for the A-Pillar,from the rotary switch which controls dashboard illumination, that might be easier. Depending upon the gauges illumination requirements, you may also need to look at the fuse value in case the current draw is significant overall - the last thing you want is the dashboard lights blank at night.

fuse panel

rattler I have three guages in the A pillar. They are all lit. I used the #5 fuse. If im not mistaken the instructions said one side of the fuse dims and the other does not, Didnt sound logical to me but I thought id mention it because I didnt check to see if that was right. You can go to your auto parts store and buy a tap, remember to get the tap for the mini fuses. you pull the fuse out and slide this little gold duhickey over one of the blades and put the bugger back in. Some elbow grease is required because it is a very tight fit. While your at the auto parts store you need to get the correct crimp on connector to connect to the tap. its very easy. In fact its so easy it is cheating. actually finding out which wire for the cigarette lighter bulb is hot and on the dimmer is much more entertaining. Neither takes very long just a circuit tester for the latter and it is a cleaner install not to have a tapped fuse in your fuse box. I presently have three tapped fuses because its so darn easy and you dont have to track down any rogue wires. have fun.
