Van Aaken recalibrated the Plug n Power for the H/O engines. This new unit (the box has changed to)produces more hp and torque than the early version and you can add injectors with out bug killing smoke appearing in the exhaust pipe area.

We ran it on the dyno, compared it to their early model and some of the other electronic box's on the market. The VA ran 15% cleaner emmissions on the Bosch Opacity constant run time test with the same power as other Can-Bus plug in units. This cleaner burn will likely show up in better fuel economy.

They also released a 275 m/h version that put's out more power when you get rolling but they cut back on the fuel at the start. We had complaints of smoke before the 30,000 coaches got rolling! Though the power cut back can be measured one can not feel it when driving these monster coach's.

We will have some product at Glenn Thomas Dodge rally this weekend.

Sounds great! I've been wondering how long before somebody "tweaked" a box specifically for the ETH's.
Did your comparisons include the EZ? Was this new VA 15% cleaner than the EZ also?
Additional question: Some folks report EZ boxes make the engine quieter; others report it increases noise. What were your perceptions of noise (at idle or light-to-moderate load) on the new VA box?

Gee wiz Steve I just couldn't hold back the enthusiasm. I will think twice next time.

We have Dyno test curves for most every ones upgrades. We will post the VA PnP graphs in the vendor promotion section but Power graphs don’t tell it all. The EZ actually does produce more power. . 1 –2 hp at 2700 rpm and 10 more lbs ft of torque at 1800 on our Mustang 750HD at Sea level yada yada. None are as clean as the VA box.

We didn’t hook up our Decibel meter. I never thought we would be ask for sound levels! The engine timing does play a role in achieving the results and sound levels would change slightly but I don't feel our ears, at least min wouldn't pick that up. I suspect Dodge owners will be teased though by DuraMax owners while they have their engines running! The new 2002 Dodge models should save their market position though.

I emailed VA and asked them about this new program and here's what they said:

Dear Steve,

We do have a CPC program for the 275 hp RV engine. However the RV engine is a much lower revving unit which is why the alternative program is needed. This RV program will not work properly on a Cummins Ram engine fitted with the 275 injectors.

For more details on the boost module to reduce smoke please contact one of our American dealers / Distributors. Details on our web site.

If you have any more questions please contact us again.

Can the VA Plug n Power be reflashed with the new program?

No the old VA can not be reflashed. The new units are not only flashed with new engine specifications but they also have a new box and a new board with some new components!

The earlier unit has groves on the out side of the box. This unit was not programmed to manage the extra fuel that a larger set of injectors demand. Now the two can be installed together with out resulting in excessive smoke. This wasn't much of problem on the 215/235 engines but we did notice it alot on the H/O engine.

One can install the new H/O box on the 215/235 engine and get a little extra power.
