A Newby Asks: Planning for Winter

I looked through the (messy) records on my truck so far. I should point out that because I live a little less than two miles from where I work I go back and forth in a Jeep Patriot. The truck is only used for long distance trips, taking the Boy Scout trailer somewhere, and going somewhere with the camper.

I am getting right around 18 mpg at the interstate speed limit with no trailer. I have gotten right at 11. 5 mpg with the camper. For some reason I get almost the same pulling the Boy Scout trailer even though it only weighs around 5,000 pounds.

The truck has worked just fine, no problems of any type. I have not had any problem doing the maintenance items myself. I remember when I was shopping and I opened the hood on the Ford and GM offerings – I sure do like the Cummins in-line six!

I note all the threads identifying distcontent with the emissions systems, etc. , and the new DEF-SCR system looks like a definite improvement. On teh other hand, averything seems great to me.
