Had to run my 3 horses up to a dressage show in Estes Park Co... about a 2 hour drive on state highways from my place...( wife took 2nd place in her class...very proud)

2012 2500/Cummins/68RFE- 4 Star 3 horse gooseneck

Up the 20 mile long pull to Estes, radiator temps never got above 201/Trans temp 204
Up the I70 for the return trip home... for the first time ever, I hit radiator temps of 220 and the RADIATOR FAN came on and sounded like the shuttle just lifted off...took me a couple seconds to figure out what the noise wise... on or about a minute later the temps dropped to 200 and the fan turned off....I recall another poster awhile ago mentioned "you will know it when it turns on" totally true.
Trans temp ran up to 195...my normal trans temp up here unloaded normally run 165/170
Altitude was between 6k ft and 8k ft/ambient temp was in the high 70's

Don't normally pull all 3 at once, truck ran great...10 years later, I still love my truck!

It's doing what ut is programmed for, the newer the engine the hotter it runs. They need that for all the exhaust after treatment stuff.

Your temperatures are perfectly fine.

Even with the same thermostat (190°) the 6.7 runs hotter than the 5.9 for 2 main reasons. First being that the block holds lees coolant (5.4 qts less), second the EGR cooler adds a bunch of heat to the cooling system.

The 190° thermostat isn't fully open until 207° and 215-220° is the normal high spot for a long pull on a hot day.
