I was at Muncie this year and I noticed a lot of 4x4 pulling trucks didn't have locked front ends. To me that would be a given that you want all four tires pulling. Is there a reason for not locking up the front end for pulling?

I would think that it would be because of the added wear of the front end always turning and causing added wear to the driveline and reducing fuel mileage. That's one advantage the first gens have over the second gens with the lock-in / lock-out hubs.

Unless you put in an air locker or something you can trun off it doesn't wok well. You just can't turn with all 4 pulling. Keep in mind many of those trucks were in some version of a street class.
