I just had to post these pics. I thought they were done really nice. They were done in 2 steps. 1st on a large belt sander, then finished it off on the side of a very fine 36" grinding wheel. This was done by a machine shop & is going in a 94, 5 speed.

Zero plates would be fine for most anyone as you can change the spring and AFC settings to control the fuel, the plate is just easier and it will follow a curve.

What's the distance from the face of the plate to the mounting plate? I have my stock plate and think I might do a little grinding... . Thanks, Mike

Mike ... it was cut straight down from the top. Following that line from the top of the plate, i. e. the mounting plate, straight down. There's another stock plate, along side a #4 in my gallery. You can see that distance.

i cut my stock plate to a zero. i used a cutting wheel and cut the profile off the stock plate. then i went back with emory cloth and smoothed it out some rubbing up and down. then i took a piece of leather and used some elbow grease and its a smooth as a baby but. plate is 1/2 forward but it have lost some top end so i am going to slid it some more. dont be scared for those thinking about doing this you can always buy one of ebay :)

Be careful grinding the stock plate to deep. You can get into the rivets. I used a Dremel to do mine. It works great.

Well, we put that little baby in the truck today. It went in a 94, 5 speed. Pegged the 30psi boost guage. :) He was all :D :D when he drove it back in the driveway.

EGT was measured post turbo & we never saw it go above 700 degrees, but we didn't pull any looooong hills. The truck is a work truck with a camper shell & the back darn near filled up with tools. Grande' weight. 285x75x16s.

When he 1st took off, I could hear it accelerate really fast up against the governor, from low rpm & boost. Oo. Hello flat plate.

Ck out the picture. It shows the "scrub" area on the stock plate. It starts really low on the plate. Hope it comes out ok.

I just haul my 30' trailer to Nebraska and back every year plus a few short trips in between. Am using a #5 right now but still have the stock plate. Would this "0" plate give me a better pulling truck?

I'd suggest grinding it as a 100 plate, at minimum. Has the ramp on the bottom like a 10, and flat like a 0 on top.

The EGTs will tell you if it is OK. Will probably smoke like a coal fired loco. :-laf

What turbo do you have? Hope it isn't a stocker.

I run a stocker turbo with the wastegate plugged off and have a very aggressive 100 grind on my plate... full forward. I think as long as you advance the timing you are fine.
