Clintons last letter to Gore

A customer of mine stopped in today. He's a great guy and fellow TDR member (just on the paper side, he doesn't post on the site). He told me his wife has major liver problems and if she doesn't get a transplant she'll die within six months to a year. To make matters worse, the hospital won't even talk to them about getting the transplant unless he coughs up $250,000 dollars up front! He looked around and pointed out the people there that had less money than he. They told him, "Yes, they qualify for welfare. You don't. " So he says, "What if I divorce her? Would she qualify then?" Their answer, "No, you have to make less than $500 a month to qualify. " His insurance will only pay $25,000. If he sells everything he owns, begs steals and borrows the money, he has to give it to the hospital to "hold" (I read, make money off the intrest). He can't even put it in a CD so he'd be able to try and live off the intrest. So, if he were rich, no problem. If he were poor, no problem. As usual, us regular guys in the middle take the shaft. Sorry for the bummer post, but it just reminded me that with all the daily crap I let get to me sometimes, I really don't have any REAL problems after all #ad

danandme, Put it in all the news papers in your area. Just like you described the situation in your post. I would even consider the National Enquirer. Local churches and other service org's can also help. If you do get a bank account set up please post the info here.

Well, to tell you the truth, I was really thinking about the bank account idea myself when I posted this, but wanted to see what kind of response I got. Also, I was afraid if it sounded like a dun for money up front, folks would blow by automatically. I will look into it this week, I should be off half a day for a doctor's appointment #ad
Will post info ASAP. As far as these organizations and such, I'm sure he's looking into these, and I'm sure folks will do what they can, but this is a rural area around here, and there's only so much money to be had, since there ain't that many folks, and many are struggling to keep a roof over their families heads as it is.

If anyone's interested... I'll put up a website for ya, with a link to take donations online, using a credit card. In fact, I'll put in a few bucks, too.

I do not have time or organize an effort, but if someone will organize, I will contribute that much to the effort.

It's been my expierience that the more rural the area the more the people help each other. . at least that very true here in my little part of the world. .
Just another thought I forgot before. .
Is the Grange big in your area ?? great source of help...
Also the Farm Breau has a news letter that might pitch for help...
Who is the largest retailer in your area... get their employee club involved. .

Wow that guy is still alive? I remember him from back when I lived in Spring, Tx (Just north of Houston) from December 1989 to August 94. I have actually been thinking of taking a job done in Spring (UP has a "branch" office down there with some dispatchers in it) so if in the next few years Omaha doesn't "grow" on me... I'll prolly head that way... we'll see.

And PowerWagon, if you set up a site to take Credit Cards as was suggested before please allow it to take Pay Pal as well. Other wise I'll send a check.

Willys... Of course... that's what I'd do, is set up a biography site plus paypal... It's the easiest way to do it.

Ok, quick update.
Good news (kinda) first. The insurance company has agreed to at least underwrite the proceedure so she can at least get on the list. He will still have to come up with the money, he just has to come up with it for the insurance co. instead of the hospital, but at least she is on the list.
Bad news. On Friday, the docs basically said they're gonna have to try to get it done in the next 10 days, things have appearantly deteriorated quickly. She's on the list but who knows.
Here's the account, please send anything ya can, it will be greatly appreciated by all. Post links to this thread on any sights where there may be some good folks willing to help out. Powerwagon, if you want to set up a web page great, just whatever you think will work best.
Please send any donations to:

Deanna Haines Cancer Fund
C/O Mason National Bank
P. O. Box 1789
Mason Tx. 76856

I posted it to the Dodge Truck Newsgroup, there are a bunch of good folks over there who may be able to chip in.
