An allegory...
I'm a helpless passenger on a drifting, sinking ship of fools.
As I, and a few others like me helplessly try to bail out the leaking
water with teacups - all that's left available to us, the majority of
the other passengers are occupied by smashing holes into the hull to "let the water out". .
They have already cut loose and dumped the ship's rudder,
to "reduce unnecessary weight" and also removed and dumped
the ship's propeller, since they say "we're just drifting anyway, so
we don't need the extra weight of a propeller either... "
Some passengers gather together, and plan to escape the ship's
plight by use of the few remaining lifeboats, and seek
safety and refuge on some rather unstable nearby islands, Mindless of the fact that when this ship dies, so do the islands.
The majority of the ship's lifeboats were earlier sent over to provide
"humanitarian assistance" to the poor occupants of the nearby unstable
islands by "generous and compassionate" ship passengers who were
more sensitive to the "needs" of those offshore than to their own families
and fellow passengers. But even now, many of those on the far shore are
laughing and celebrating the death of the ship - oblivious to the fact that
this very ship they are watching sink, is the only supply ship keeping
island residents alive. .
Now, those who in the name of compassion tossed away or destroyed their
own safety and salvation, weep loudly and openly as they see their ship
sinking beneath them, and realize they foolishly damaged and threw away
their main means of security and safety. Nor are the people on the far shore
any better off, because when the ship sinks, so does their future.
End of allegory...
For those unfamiliar, an allegory is a fanciful story used to illustrate a
point. A clue in the above, the "ship" is the United States, the "rudder"
is our Constitution and Bill of Rights - and the propeller is the jobs and
technology we throw away when we ship our manufacturing capabilities
outside our own country...
Can you figure out the rest?
