An allegory...

I'm a helpless passenger on a drifting, sinking ship of fools.

As I, and a few others like me helplessly try to bail out the leaking

water with teacups - all that's left available to us, the majority of

the other passengers are occupied by smashing holes into the hull to "let the water out". .

They have already cut loose and dumped the ship's rudder,

to "reduce unnecessary weight" and also removed and dumped

the ship's propeller, since they say "we're just drifting anyway, so

we don't need the extra weight of a propeller either... "

Some passengers gather together, and plan to escape the ship's

plight by use of the few remaining lifeboats, and seek

safety and refuge on some rather unstable nearby islands, Mindless of the fact that when this ship dies, so do the islands.

The majority of the ship's lifeboats were earlier sent over to provide

"humanitarian assistance" to the poor occupants of the nearby unstable

islands by "generous and compassionate" ship passengers who were

more sensitive to the "needs" of those offshore than to their own families

and fellow passengers. But even now, many of those on the far shore are

laughing and celebrating the death of the ship - oblivious to the fact that

this very ship they are watching sink, is the only supply ship keeping

island residents alive. .

Now, those who in the name of compassion tossed away or destroyed their

own safety and salvation, weep loudly and openly as they see their ship

sinking beneath them, and realize they foolishly damaged and threw away

their main means of security and safety. Nor are the people on the far shore

any better off, because when the ship sinks, so does their future.

End of allegory...

For those unfamiliar, an allegory is a fanciful story used to illustrate a

point. A clue in the above, the "ship" is the United States, the "rudder"

is our Constitution and Bill of Rights - and the propeller is the jobs and

technology we throw away when we ship our manufacturing capabilities

outside our own country...

Can you figure out the rest?

As long as we're going down

How about throwing those people that cut off the rudder and the propeller over board. And while we're sinking might as well use that cannon on the bow to take care of those mother @%#$&!s on the islands too.

If I'm going down I'm taking a few of those a$$holes with me. ;)

Darrell

mdlowry, That is awesome:cool:

Most people are quick to forget that we had to fight for what we have. I've never been in the service:( I have terrible knees, my trigger finger works just fine but I guess that doesn't count. I can assure you if it comes down to it I will be the first in line to defend mine and my family's's freedom.

Come and Get them

Darrell

Gary,

I'll take a stab at it.

As I and a few helpless passengers(citizens)on the sinking ship(U. S. ),try to bail it out with common sense, the majority of the other passengers are beating the ship to death by smashing holes in it(bill of rights) not knowing they are causing the ship to sink even faster.

They don't care about the rudder(constitution) anymore, or if they do they want to interpret it in a way that suits their needs for their gains only. They've dumped the propeller(jobs) since they can get another one somewhere else for less.

Some passengers (corporations) have already left on the few remaining lifeboats and have set up their HQ's on some small nearby islands to evade taxes and regulations although when the mother ship goes down so do the islands.

The majority of the ships lifeboats were sent away earlier to take care of all the other islands in the world by the "compassionate" passengers who think they know what needs to be done elsewhere but can't get their own house in order. Although the other islands despise the ship and celebrate when theres more damage(terrorism) to the ship, they don't realize that the ship that is sinking is supplying them with a lot of the things they need to survive.

Now the "compassionate" ones who threw away everything and can see what damage has been done weep openly because they realize they should have taken care of their own families and passengers first. The people on the other shores will be worse off as well. No longer will they have the ship to go to when the going gets rough.

Gary,

This is my attempt at it, could say more but... ... ... .

Rich - YUP, you pretty well got it...

Other than the fact that the rudder is both the Constitution AND Bill of Rights - and the "hull", is our USA borders - and we're sinking under the liberal flood of immigrants and foreign attitudes that dilute and compromise the basic beliefs and ideals that CREATED this country to begin with!

A well known writer said something to the effect:

"EVERY civilization that has died, did so because they forgot where they came from"

As WE "forget" that our country came in to being because early settlers RESISTED what Europe had become, and was forcing upon it's society, we approach extinction as the nation we once were - NOW, many in our society seriously crave and pursue anything that is "European", whether it is a product, or an ideal...

Sorry guys I got to disagree. I'm one of the "citizens" that joined the USMC during the unpopular Vietnam war. I think our nation is stronger now then it has ever been. Because of that strength we are able to let people think and express their feelings and make a life for themselves. This Nation was built on immigrants, give me all you have. We are the one Super Power in this world and it is our duty to help any other nation and people that need food or support in their fight for the same freedoms we enjoy. It might "cost us" some jobs, money, security, but in the long run it will be worth it. Most of the people today that talk about how great this nation was and how bad it is now, don't have a clue about how tough life can be. The average citzen in the US lives like Royality compared to most people in this world. How can any of us deny them the opportunity to live a better life.

I don't think that anyone here is saying that this is a bad place. We are still one of the best nations on this earth. We could be better though.
I think our nation is stronger now then it has ever been.
The problem is we are not the country we once were. We have given up most of our freedoms. Our government does not pay any attention to the Constitution or the Bill of Rights.

The problem with helping other nations is that the money is not given to the people, it's given to a corrupt government. The government then turns around and uses the money or supplies as they see fit.

The average citzen in the US lives like Royality compared to most people in this world. How can any of us deny them the opportunity to live a better life.
I'm not the one who is. Their government is. And for that matter our government holds us back too. Do you know how much you pay in taxes? I'll bet you don't. Income tax, Property tax, Social Security tax, Medicare tax, sales tax, state income tax, vehicle taxes, etc. And then there are the taxes you don't see: road/fuel taxes, phone taxes, alcohol taxes, cigarette taxes, ammo taxes and lots more. You pay more than 40% of your gross income in taxes in one form or another to the various governments. IIRC, someone said that when the colonies were objecting to all the taxes levied against them, they were still paying less than 10%. Taxation with representation hasn't worked much better.

"Immigration" in the above is as much figurative as it is literal - it's true that this country was FOUNDED by immigrants, who subsequently pounded out what this country became... The "figurative immigration" is the infiltration of laws, attitudes and practices that have slowly CORRUPTED what was formerly intended to be AVOIDED and ESCAPED by those early settlers...

Are we truly as "free" as we were even 50 years ago? I think not - and can give you quite a few stark examples based upon my own direct experience!

Here's a couple right away - as a kid in high school, a friend and I would ride the bus to school carrying our 22 rifles along so we could go shooting near my place when we returned home in the afternoon - once at school, we simply dropped the rifles off inside the principle's office with NO need for explanation or permission - we retrieved them after school, and then did as planned.

In those years, pickups routinely had gun racks in their rear windows across America, complete with rifles and shotguns - wanna try that NOW in most states and cities?

It's more than about guns, MANY earlier freedoms have been seized or sacrificed under various excuses - "security" "safety" "protecting society" - but it's lost liberty, regardless of how it's colored - and prior military service really isn't the yardstick by which passengers of this "ship" are measured - it's whether they are aboard bailing - or smashing more holes in the hull, and sending the ship's lifeboats over the side for the islanders...

I don't have a problem with immigration as long as it's Legal Immigration. If you want to come to this country then do it the right way like a lot of people have and still do. I too have spent some time in the USMC and was overseas for a year of my tour. I can tell you from my experience that theres no place like the USofA. I think a lot of people don't really know how well they have it here in this country. Gary, you're right, we are losing more and more of our freedoms every day with each new law or bill that gets passed. It seems the liberal answer to everything is more government(control), more taxes.

BTW, I had someone ask if there is any area of our life that is not taxed or regulated. I couldn't think of any. Can anyone else?

I was taught it is what you do not what you say that counts. Bailing or smashing is just a matter of opinion. I know you can't carry a gun on the school bus now, but I will trade your gun on that school bus for the way the girls dress now going to school versus back when we went to school. Now that is freedom :D

I remember when the parents thought that the Beatles hair cuts were going to be the ruin of the nation. I think we have more freedom then we use to have.

Ahhh heck. . Just crank up the "Boom Box" a little higher & you wont even notice the urgency...

Half the people here in my neighborhood still have their brains buzzing from their drive home from the welfare office... They dont have time to worry about our country, they dont want to miss Jerry Springer. .

boom. boom. boom de boom boom boom. de ...

Jay, have you not learned, you create your own reality. I've had people my whole life tell me how things were going to hell and how I should feel and act. Most of these people have had miserable lives and I have had a charmed life. My best friend thinks that everything I touch turns to gold. Life is what you want to make of it, if you want to believe it is going to hell that's up to you. Not mine :D or my country :) I hope you wake up from your night mare :( Call me maybe I can talk you through this :-laf

Change

Just before WW2 we as a nation could not even realize what we were capable of in manufacturing terms. Now we know.

There has been kooks predicting the end of the world for ages, still ain't here. You can interpet the end of the world from any religious doctrine, the Bible, the Koran, ect, ect. It has been done. I don't think I want to sit around and wait for it. I will carry on, if it comes, it comes. We all have to go sometime and I choose to make the most of now.

The problems America has is based on the freedoms we all enjoy. Most of Americas problems come from apathy of the average American. We are so tied up in our own little world we tend to let others around us dictate policies without looking at the big picture. We forget the power we hold, until its gone.

Just like the workplace, we had workers who cared about each other. Now its dog eat dog. We used to care about our neighbor, now we don't have time to care. We used to have pride in our work, now we have to produce more, faster, to compete.

We all resist change, but it is happening as we speak. I see a day when we are surrounded by enemys, unless we change. Things are changing, we can bend or break. We can make this an opurtunity or a downfall.

We have the strongest military in the world right now. We are putting troops all over the world in the name of freedom? We are trying to give the world our freedoms and democracy. Have we ever thought maybe they don't want it? Have we ever thought they can't handle it? Have we ever thought that just maybe they need to learn these lessons the hard way, like we did?

It is easy to predict failure, it is not so easy to predict success! I see a resilient people, with heart and soul dedicated to a better way of life. We just need to change, this isn't the same atmosphere or times as WW-2 and shouldn't be treated the same.

Very well written!!

The state is evil and stupid.

I believe in Natural Law. Law is discovered, not created. This applies not only to physical laws, such as the law of gravity, but also to the laws of economics, society, war, and human nature.

Apparently our coming war with Iraq is a done deal. Let's apply some Natural Law and see what we come up with.

A big strong country with a big strong military will always beat a little weak country with a little weak military.

Iraq is already one-third conquered as it is. After ten years of blockade, I don't believe they'll offer much resistance. The 22 Islamic countries in the world have a combined GNP (excluding oil) slightly less than that of Spain. Iraq has a GNP the size of South Carolina.

The invasion may not be exactly a "cakewalk," but it'll be close. A lot more of them will die than us. Most of "them" that die will be innocent.

Slave soldiers are no soldiers at all.

The conscripted slave soldiers in Iraq's army will surrender by the thousands, if we let them. It's what they did the first time, when they were surrendering to TV news crews. They don't want to die for a nut like Saddam Hussein.

Democracy is an inferior form of government that will always collapse.

After we conquer Iraq, what exactly are we going to do with it? Try to impose the silly and dangerous leftist dream of "democracy" on it? I doubt most of them know what "democracy" means ("It means. . uh... it means... freedom! And, uh, jobs! Yeah, that's it! Freedom and jobs!") Even most Americans don't understand what it means. Self-rule? What exactly is that? The rule of the majority over the minority? The rule of organized special-interest groups busy trying to steal everyone else's money? Iraq is a country that has no understanding of "self-rule" in the slightest. Because of this...

When one country conquers another, it will be there a long time.

Because it will be trying to set up a stable government that will be no threat to the conquerors. Har har! Right now the "President" of Afghanistan has the American military as his Praetorian bodyguards because other Afghanis are trying to kill him.

Conquered countries are a financial drain on the conquerors.

I've never understood Empire. In the history of the world, not one colony has ever been a financial benefit to the conqueror. Not one. They've always sucked more treasure from the conqueror than they've given back.

Now maybe certain people will benefit. I think it's pretty obvious that a armchair-general chickenhawk warmongering coward like Dick Cheney will make out like a bandit on the oil money from Iraq. But the American public? They'll just expend their blood and treasure on a country halfway around the world.

It's a lot easier to conquer than occupy.

If we're big and strong, and they're little and weak, conquering is easy. But occupying is a whole different ballgame, because...

Guerilla warfare is the only way a weak occupied country can fight back against its conqueror.

Guerilla warfare is the Achilles' Heel of any occupying army. We forced the British out during the Revolutionary War through guerilla warfare, and Zionists forced the British out in Palestine the same way.

It's not possible to tell a guerilla from the innocent. A guerilla may be a cabdriver by day, then sneak into the woods at night and shoot an enemy soldier in the head. Then he goes home, goes to sleep and drives his taxi the next day.

Because of this, the only way to completely put a stop to guerilla warfare is to...

Kill everyone.

And we're not going to do that.

What's probably going to happen is the US government is going to conquer Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Saudi Arabia. We're going to be there for years, expending the American public's blood and treasure. The US military will have to tolerate casualties from guerilla warfare. But in the long-run...

Empires always withdraw.

In the history of the world, not one Empire hasn't collapsed or withdrawn from the territories it occupies. They have destroyed themselves economically trying to run the Empire. They're resorted to ruinous inflation, or destructive deficit spending. Either way, it's ended up collapsing the Empire.

So either we can withdraw now, or we can withdraw later. Of course we will withdraw later, because...

The state is evil and stupid.
