This is going to sound like such a dumb, obsessive question, but here goes... I feel like too much of a doofus to bother the dealer with this question...

Some manufacturer's recommend NOT waxing your vehicle for the first 1-3 months, apparently to allow the factory paint job to "breathe". Apparently, waxing during this time can discolor the paint and introduce many noticeable imperfections.

Is it OK to wax my new Dodge, or do I need to wait for some time?

Yes, it is OK to wax the new clear coat finishes. In fact, feel free to come over and wax mine too. :D

I just went to a body shop to get an estimate. I got clipped a couple weeks ago by a plow in our big snowstorm, go figure I was sitting in an already plowed area of a parking lot at work. Didn't do much damage but still came to about 1000. 00. They are going to have to reshoot the right side of the bed. Right on the estimate printout it says not to wax for 3-6 months. Doesn't say why not will ask when I take it in next week.

Wax answer

Hello,

You can wax a new vehicle the day it leaves the factory. The factory has huge ovens that bake on the finish so it is fine to wax immediately. When you have a car painted at a body shop due to an accident, etc you have to wait because they can't bake the paint at a very high temperature due to all the plastic, rubber, etc on the car. The factory doesnt have to deal with all of this since the vehicle is painted when nothing is on it but the shell.

Clay bar the beast . Just make sure it is squeeky clean first. Claybar takes out all embedded dirt . I'm not gonna recommend wax brand. Don't wanna cause a wax war.

BTW you can buy ''California Claybar'' at walmart
