I was informed that by blowing air into the trans port (port used for getting pressure readings on passenger side) with selector in drive, one could remove all of the transmission fluid including the TC. Has anyone tried this? This would seem to be a better method than running the engine with the return line removed.

Many shops including Midas have a machine that will draw out all the AT and replace with new whatever type fluid you like. The machines will also pump solvent though the system to clean, something you should NOT do. My closest Midas charged $59 to remove the old ATF and replace with new, you supply the new fluid. Well worth the hassle and mess for me.

Trans fluid replacement via this method sounds like a good idea. (especially if it also removes/replaces the fluid in the tc.
How do you change the trans filter? This sounds like a great price to add a little piece of mind, and eliminate a trans fluid bath. But I still wanna change my pan to a deep sump first.

Illflem is correct. Let them change the fluid but don't let them add the "so called cleaner". It can cause any sludge or commanly called varnish material to break loose and possibly clog your cooler Gitchusum (Fellow LSTDR member) had a trans go out soon after having this done. Problem was a plugged cooler, the one under the turbo bolted to the side of the block.

Also make sure that they install ATF +3 trans fluid. The dipstick says that Dextron is O. K. but don't chance it. Bill K. (DTT) and someone else had info that Dextron was not good for our crappy Dodge trans. Good luck... ... .

Ed, while the transmission is drained they will also change the filter if you ask. If you go to Midas it's best if you bring your own filter, gasket and fluid, they charged me an extra $10 to change the filter and adjust the bands per my instructions. Not all shops are this easy to work with, but my local Midas has been very good, they will even install non-Midas shocks and brake pads if I bring them in.
