Just memorized TDR issue 28. I have been getting geared up for my A/T to fail and I wanted to be pretty sure what new parts I wanted to install.
Check out P. 98 ad by Pro-Loc, and P. 112 ad by Dunrite. Talk about conflicting info.
From whom would you buy?

(Pete-I don't like it either. Purdue U never taught me this kind of logic)

when you figure it out let me know what works best... .

plus a question for all you in the know... . when an AT usually fails do to HP or load, what usually goes out? could you get away with just replacing the converter and valve body?

as an aside... i don't like the new multiple forums... divide and conquer. i like the idea of this forum being a campfire to disscuss issues... all issues. you never know when a thread will capture your interest even though it doesn't relate to you... yet. my $0. 02 and yes i know no one asked and i was told to keep to myself, but there it was said.

Well my understanding is the Torque Converter is the weakest part of the transmission. The valve body needs to be upgraded to handle the increased line pressures required to apply the clutch packs. I am doing the TC and Valvebody and and a few minor parts inside and am told I should be able to hold down 350HP to 400Hp no problem.

  • In the VERY near future Power Edge Box, JRE 4" Exhaust, and Autometer Ultra-Lite Boost and Pyro Gauges
  • transmission soon to have a new Torque Converter and Valvebody good for 400HP!?! Horsepower mods being discussed - I'll just say I am upgrading something electronically.

yes the torque convertor is the weak link , 2 problems with it , 1) it stalls at to high an rpm , (stall is the rpm where the TC is at its greatest efficency while not locked) , in stock form from DC its around 2500 rpm , end of peak torque , at or near peak HP , should be lower .

tommy to stock , i would think that your convertor would outlast the engine #ad

Mopar-Muscle, I think you have the stall speeds backwards for towing -vs- high HP applications. If your stall is too low (appraoching 1600 RPM) you WILL bog off the line when trying to get a heavy trailer into motion. The bog would tend to be less noticeable with the additional weight (trailer) removed.

thanks for the correction , i was thinking about gas motors . but i would have thought the more efficent the better , kind of like a clutch with a manaul trans ... i guess not.

I'll be adding my Sun Coast coverter, BD valve body and pressure loc in the next couple of weeks... . i'll keep you posted... JB
