A trail of diesel.....

I had quite a surprise today- was walking to my truck to get in & go after making a call on a customer and noticed something unusual hanging low by the driveshaft. It was the fuel tank!! The rear support strap had broken and it was hanging on only by the filler hose, diesel was dripping everywhere since I had just filled up the night before. I babied it a couple miles to an auto shop and they ran it on the rack, got a transmission jack under it, and welded strap back together for a temporary fix. Bad news was it broke the fuel tank neck where filler hose attaches so I guess I need a new tank. Does anyone have any suggestions? Might try a salvage yard for a used one. I figure Dodge will be quite proud of new tanks.

Thanks in advance, I'm new to these trucks and the TDR but it amazes me how knowledgable and helpful everyone is!

They have a 54 gal replacement or midship tank. Its aluminum.

This is the golden opportunity to get the 54 gallon direct replacement tank. There was a thread a while ago about 750. 00 I think. If You need to be conservative check with some body shop on plastic welding you may be able to repair yours?

I just noticed the transfer flow 54 gal is advertised for 98-01 trucks with ext. cabs and long beds. Any reason this wont work on the 97 and earlier trucks, of same size.
