I just bought a truck w/ 82K on it, it has 2K on a rebuilt trans and shifts well. I'm going to turn up the power a little(exhaust, injectors, etc) and was wondering if I should do anything w/ the trans to help it live a long life. I'm putting a trans temp guage in this week, and was thinking about a deep pan and maybe another cooler. What about that BD valve body, or a tighter converter? Who makes a good converter for our trucks? Are people having good luck w/ synthetic fluid, and what brand? I dont' want to do an all out, 3K build, for that money I'll put a 5 sp in it... Thanks-Nick

Hi Nick,

Since the trans is so new you could easily get away with using a higher efficiency TC and custom VB.

I'd suggest the DTT system... I use it myself and I am also a bit biased in that regard.

You are aiming for a lower stall speed and higher fluid coupling efficiency... you match that with a good VB that has been tuned/set for your needs/application and you're set to go.

To be fair though, there are other options out there and other users have had good success with their choices...

Most of the 1st gen guys have used the DTT system to the best of my knowledge but you could certainly look into Suncoast, Goerand Bros. , TCS and, others.

Do some research, do some searches on this site for trans/TC/VB topics too... . that will also yield lots of info and testimonials. .

You definitely want to look into a better valve body and tc, i had my transmission rebuilt back in july 04 and it has went out twice since then, both times they have said that the tc has failed i find that hard to believe, but that's what they say (says something for the quality of there parts huh) I got the pickup back again and it drives pretty good right now but if it happens again i'm thinking about just having it rebuilt with DTT parts. I'm even thinking about turning the power down right now so i can get a little more time out of the transmission. PB is right on with what he is telling you, i even called him up and talked to him and Piers transmission guy, They definitely know what there talking about.
