Can someone please enlighten me to a part number for a rear seal for a 4x4

A518 transmission? Took the transfer case off last night and ATF poured out b/w the transmission and t-case. This is supposed to be a Chrysler reman transmission and there is NO rear seal on the transmission! I'm thinkin' that isn't right:rolleyes:

I have taken my transfer case off twice before. The very first time I don't remember seeing any gasket between the T-case and transmission tail. Both times I ended up using some quick gasket maker called: "The Right Stuff". This stuff comes in a small, black aerosol can. I believe it is pricey, but works awesome!

Chris the 518's don't use a rear seal.

My question is. What are you doing with an auto. I thought you were a stick man. :-laf

Solution

After further research, it is obvious that the transmission doesn't have any seal on it, the output shaft is splined from the bearing to the end. Mopar # 4340247 is the gasket that fits b/w the transmission and t-case. Seemed strange to me that this is the way that its designed since the Getrag is dry b/w each case.

Philip, ya gotta take what you can find. Owning 2 trucks with the same paint scheme is something that I couldn't pass up!:D

Wow Philip! I guess that your truck is getting a complete transformation. What are you gonna do with your old auto? I might need a spare someday...

I have a spare 518 setting in Jeremy's barn and then the one in my truck. So I can set you up with one of those pretty easy.

Yea the truck will be down most of the summer most likely. I'll do the G56 swap first to get it in and the floors worked over. Then not to long after, it gets a cab swap started. The cab swap has to happen this year. I don't have enough driver floor boards to make another winter. :-laf

Check the cab mount underneath. I tapped on mine gently with a hammer and the whole side fell out of it. My floors were only a little worse than that at the time.
