Hey guys I bought the edelbrock shocks EAS and do not buy them I think the stock shocks are better I was surprised because they put so much advertising into them!!!!!!1

huh?

That's odd, I have had the Edelbrock IAS shocks on my Ram since they were first released for the CTD/V-10 2500 QC/CC application... about 62k and 3. 5 years ago. I have had very good luck with mine. Are you sure you have the correct part numbers... (they are very vehicle specific)?

BTW, they are IAS shocks not EAS.

Got to agree with John on this one,,I can not figure how a stock shock is better or will outperform the Performer IAS,,I'm lost on that one... ... .

How 'bout offering a little more info than "they suck". What don't you like about them? Not enough rebound or compression damping? Specifics would help.

I can attest to the model specific nature of the shocks. I had a '96 2500 4wd 360 V8 that I installed the IAS shocks on - big improvement. I then got my '00 2500 4wd CTD and being the cheapskate that I am I swapped the shocks over to the CTD since the gasser was getting sold. Well, the shocks are undervalved for the increased weight of the CTD. Not enough to buy the right ones but enough to be noticable.

My stock shocks are about shot, and I was thinking about either Rancho RS5000 or RS9000's . My blazer has RS5000's and I like them. Anyone have an oppinion on RS9000's?

Rancho's VS Edelbrock shocks

I tried both and the Ranchos work best for me.

!. The Edelbrocks seemed to make the front end "hunt around"

2. They were'nt adjustable either, a big disadvantage. .

3. I have them on 3 different trucks along with the Vevet-Ride

shackles and wouldn't have it any other way. .

Rancho makes suspension parts and nothing else!!!

Bilsteins

I just installed Bilsteins on my truck. Asked questions of the membership before the purchase. I don't tow with my truck and it is a daily driver. The Bilsteins are a very high quality shock, I now have a great riding truck. I can't comment on the Rancho's but they make sense if you do both daily driving and pull a big heavy 5th wheel. Just the fact that you can adjust them would seem to be an advantage if you do both. Several members commented that they had both the Rancho's and the Bilsteins on their trucks at different times and they felt the Bilsteins were better shocks. I never had anyone comment that they had experence with both the Bilsteins and the Rancho's and liked the Rancho's better then the Bilsteins. But maybe someone out there has and does??? I don't think you can go wrong with either Rancho's or Bilsteins. I hope your next shock purchase experence is a better one :)

front ends hunting???

Ok,,I'll bite, define "makes the front ends hunt around",,That comment alone would make most of us that there was more changed than shocks to fix it,,Inquiring minds want to know,,One other thing here and somebody else asked it,but I'll echo it,,Define "they *uck",,Need input.....

Ranch 9000's

when you adjust from 1 to 5 what are you actually adjusting?

A valve a dampner or ???

I have the Bilsteins under the tree.

I am just curious

Rancho doesn't make R9000's... Monroe shocks do. They own Rancho... It is a good shock. The adjustment on the shock is both compression and rebound dampening. It slows the movement of the shaft in or out. Higher number, slower movement, stiffer shock... . It basicly lets less oil move through the valves

i have the Ebrocks , they are better than the stockers , but they aren't that great , though i haven't tried anything else as of yet .

when i hit the rather swallow potholes that seem to crop up when the top layer of asphalt comes loose on the highway, at highway speed , the whole truck seems to DANCE around , not so much the front , but definitely the rear ... with the stock shocks it would just bottom out basicly , but you stayed going in the same lane so to speak...

problem is you can't really compare the SWB and LWB trucks , the LWB trucks ride much better and a shock that works great on the LWB muy not to the ticket on the SWB .

as far as i'm concerned a shock that is adjustable ... i have swb ... is the best choice for the rear on a truck that is driven 90% unloaded .

One of the differences I noted when I changed out the OEM's for the Bilsteins. I live off a windy poorly designed state highway, the OEM's required more steering corrections because of the lack of control of the spring damping. Also had to drive slower. The Bilsteins make my truck hold the road better. Don't get me wrong my truck does not handle like a sports car. But it feels more secure. I like a stiff shock, but I don't like it to cause the truck to jerk around. The Bilstein provided a stiff feel without the jerky feeling. I am very pleased. I have the Monroe made shocks on my Landcruiser, they have been on it for 70K miles and I like the way it handles and they still perform the same as the first day I put them on. So I am very pleased with them also. The only way you can know for sure is to drive CTD like your truck that has the different brands of shocks installed. I did not have that opportunity so I purchased the Bilsteins, based on the recommendations of the TDR members that responded to my Thread. (also as I have previously stated I do not tow with my truck so the adjustable nature of a shock was not important). But I did have responses from members that do tow and had experence with both Rancho 9000's and Bilsteins state that they liked the Bilsteins better.

SWB VS LWB

Question for Mopar-Muscle?

When you were talking about a comparo between SWB and LWB pickups, are you also talking about the extended cab version?

My extended cab short-box 4x4 has a 10 inch longer wheel base than a regular cab long-box. 141 vs 131. Ride quality is very good, but I'm sure it would be better with newer shocks.

I put some new Monroe Heavy Duty's on a ''94 GM and it made a whole different pickup out of it. I purposely purchased ones designed for the 3/4 ton vs my 1/2 ton model. Don't have that option here since I already have the 2500HD model.

My $. 02 worth...

Hey John,,Now your not going to pass that,"Hit a pothole and my truck dances around crap on me stuff",,After wheeling that thing twice now( I still have that Spies Like Us G-Force wind tunnel tested hair do,ya know) the ONLY and I mean ONLY dancing that animal does is the rear tires being BLISTERED out from under you,,You can not count shock travel(extension) upon acceleration "dancing around" and the ensuing rebound upon the rapid deceleration to stop that thing,,Hope the brakes have cooled off by now,may owe you a set of pads still,,I did not think your truck danced or hunted around when I drove it,I must have missed something... ... ...

OK ..... Defining $uck.

The Edelbrock shocks were better than stock, but then again when I took my stock ones off at 60K I could push (for lack of a better word) the front ones down with one finger...

TheEdelbrocks when you expect them to be soft they are Hard, and when you expect them to be hard they are soft, I guess this is them reading the road.

Hard...

On the highway when you hit a pothole with one tire, or even better when you first hit a pothole with one tire then the tire on the other side of the truck hits another pothole, then of course repeat with rear tires, the truck is all over the road, like riding a bucking bronco (OK not really that bad). Translation... ... With quick short bumps very stiff.

Soft...

Around corners (like an off ramp) the truck will lean like my wife's old Honda Civic used too. But if I start to turn (truck leans hard) and I straighten wheel (while not going off the road) and then turn back into the turn the truck stays Level. . Almost as if the truck wasn't paying attention and I caught it off guard by turning when it wasn't paying attention, but I got its attention now and it's ready, I guess this is the shock reading the road like its advertised again. Going over rolling bumps the trucks front end jumps up and down like the shocks are worn out and need new ones. If I brake real hard NOSE DIVE.....

Hope this explains my definition of $uck!
