Okay, so how do I know if my truck needs the timing adjusted? It's cold where I live (9 degrees last night). If I plug in the heater it runs okay, if I don't it barely moves, even after it's warmed up.

Any help? guidelines? or words of wisdom for a rookie?

THANK YOU!

bluish-grey smoke is usually a sign. If ya stand in the smoke and it burns your eyes it's fuel. i would think it'd be sluggish all the time if the timing had slipped. mine doesn't like it much when i leave it unplugged. I have found for mine holding it to about 1200-1300 rpms w/ the transmission in neutral helps warm it up when I've left it unplugged.
