John,
I read your post on the TDR bulletin board re ERA installation. I have an Abbott ERA on order from Rickson. My truck is a 99 somewhat similar to yours so I'm pleased to hear you had no problem. My question is, do you have 4 wheel ABS? I do and so does Glen. We have speed sensors on each front wheel in addition to the sensor at the rear that the ERA modifies. It seems to me that if the ERA alters the signal frequency from the rear wheels but not the front, the ABS controller may detect an imbalance. Perhaps that is the reason for Glen's dashboard ABS fault light coming on.
I would be very relieved to hear you had 4 wheel ABS and still made a satisfactory ERA installation. Please e-mail me or post the answer on the board.
Thanks,
Keith Hammond.
Greetings, Keith.
I do have 4-wheel ABS, ordered the truck with it (so I'm sure). So I believe you should not have a problem, mine has shown no ABS light in 3500 miles since I installed the unit. By my best guess w/o dissecting the system, or finding my shop manual which is still buried from moving, I believe that the ABS controller is simply looking for a failure of the wheel(s) to rotate (even for a split second), so the minor change in rotation ratio front-to-rear should not be a problem... . Best of luck to you both- the stripes on those wires are easy to miss the color on, I'll check the plug for the exact # of the wire if you wish. JJH
