While driving home from a camping trip yesterday, my ABS/Parking Brake indicators came on and stayed on. About every 5 minutes after that they would cycle off and come right back on. Now they are on and haven't cycled off, then on again. I definitely lost my anti-lock brakes. Took it out for a skid test after unhooking the trailer. Yepp, they're gone. Anybody know what's up.

John,
Mine did that and it was a wheel speed senser

I read on some past threads that there are three wheel sensors. Where are they located? Looks like I'll have to dig out the service manual tonight.

Sorry, John, I don't even know what one looks like. Montana Dodge in Billings MT warrantied mine, no questions asked.

There is a sensor on each front wheel and one on the ring gear of the differential. The one at the diff. reads the some gear that the speedometer looks at. Mine quit last fall and it turned out that the sensor at the diff. was covered with metal particles, (carrier bearing failure) pull the level plug from the diff. and see if it has collected any metal. The sensors at the front wheel look at a sprocket type ring behind the brake disc. bg

Now I'm getting a little worried. I saw metal flakes in the pan that the mechanic used to catch my fluid while replacing the rear pinion seal last week. However, I have not seen metal flakes on the Mag-Hytec dipstick and the gear lube analysis came back good which alleviated any concern that I had. I wonder if the wheel sensor would be included in my drive train warranty. Wouldn't that be sweet #ad
Right in the middle of this warranty issue, another problem in the differential pops up. Hopefully it will just be the sensor. Oh well, never a dull moment.

John, please keep us posted.

I checked the wheel sensor last night. I measured the resistance across the sensor itself and didn't get anything on the meter, but I'm not sure if I'm doing that right. The sensor was in pretty good shape, no metal or anything like that. Does anyone know if I'll need the scan tool to get the dash indicator lights to shut off? The new sensor goes in tonight, so I guess I will know soon enough.

The sensor is in and that thump that I thought were my grid heaters is actually coming from the brake master cylinder area. Is it the HCU? That would explain why it was gone when I lost my ABS. Oh well, just goes to show that the assume factor is still valid. #ad
Time for injectors. #ad
