:) For all those that have been fighting to find out why the ABS/ Brake light warning is on and have not had any luck with all the other fixes.

I had just bought a 98. 5 24valve 3500 4x4 that had some problems but ran good and still looks ok.

After fixing lots of other quirks, I found that I had no cruise, no brake lights and kept getting an ABS/ Brake warning light. The speedo worked fine from 0-90+. Now this warning light would come on at about 45mph and stayed on unless I turned off and on the key. Then it was gone until I shut down to stop the truck, next start up no problem till I get to 45 mph again.

After checking all the fuses as per the back threads I had read, with no luck, I desided it was time to check the brake switch. Well there was NO brake switch. So I looked around and found that the PO had removed it, and put it in the console. So, I reinstalled it to find that the ears that hold it in place were no longer working right, but the lights now worked so the switch was good but just wouldn't stay in the holder.

So, If you have changed your speed sensor and have all good fuses, and the speedo works fine, but you have no cruise, and keep getting an ABS/ Brake warning light. Check to see if your brake lights are working right. If the switch is bad or in my case MIA, then you may have found the problem. Oo.

Funny you should ask that, I was just talking to one of the guys in my shop at work and he had brought that up while talking to a contractor that was in from Germany.

The state of Ga. doesn't require any kind of safety inspection. If you are crazy enough to drive it then the state could care less, just as long as you have insurance and have paid your taxes on it.

I haven't been driving this new truck but just a few short trips till I get all the bugs worked out, I just wonder how many miles the PO drove it like it was?

So far, I have replaced the transmission (broken 5th gear), replaced one of the front rotors and put on new front brake pads, put on new tires yesterday, and changed out the 4. 10 gears for 3. 55 last week. Fixed the brake light switch, and added step bars. Tomorrow I will replace the rear brake shoes. :)

Glad you fixed your ABS & BRAKE lights on problem. Mine are lit also, but my truck brake lights are working fine. Flashers, turn signals, stop, and running all working. Some reason I only have ID markers lit on any trailer I pull. About three weeks ago, ran the batteries down leaving parking and ID's on all night on the trailer I was deliverin, wanted the big trucks to be able to see what they're gonna hit when pullin out. Anyway, got someone to jump me, got restarted, drove it on the Interstate for quite awhile. Driving through a city, stop and go traffic, sitting at a red, the engine changed it's note, stuttered a couple times, both the ABS and BRAKE lights extinguished. I thought to myself, great everything's fine. Wrong, quarter to half minute later they came back on. Then seconds later went out again. Now I think everything's fine again. Nope, back on again and have been on ever since. Went by my Angola, IN, DOC, Dave's Diesels, he got it "OUT OF LIMP" mode, reset the overtemp code that had been set. Said he could do nothing about the ABS and BRAKE lights, his scanner couldn't get into those. Running across several states haulin a trailer in limp mode, no wonder my mileage went to heck. Stopped in Wheat Ridge, CO, dropped the white whale off cause OD wasn't working. ATS Performance swapped out under warranty the transmission and TC for units sitting on the shelf. No questions ask, and sent me on my way. They know this truck is my bread & butter. It's at my Colorado DOC now, Reliance Truck & Auto, getting lots fixed. He says gotta go to dealer to get it cleared. Last time I did that with another vehicle dealer charged $85 just to hook the scanner up.

Anybody know of any of the computer software scanner programs that can read and clear the ABS codes? $85 a whack don't take long to buy a program. I got no dealer warranty, got no other reason to ever go to a dealer.

OTRPU

This is why I put in my RoadRelay 4. If I set a code, it will tell me what it is, in english vice #'s.

On page 24 of the User's Guide.

13. 3 Resetting the Fault Log

To clear all inactive faults, press (wrench button #4) and select "Reset Faults. " Press return to reset: press back space to leave this screen and not reset faults.

SnapOn scanner can't do that. He cleared an Overheat code, but said only Dealer can get into ABS to turn the lights off. DOC had a Dealer Tech that brought his scanner with him, checked and found I probably have a bad ABS speed sensor bad in the rear diff. Dealer only item, none it town, so I'm running without ABS and ignoring all the lights.

Got this back from Auterra folks

Our scan tool works for powertrain and emissions only. Not ABS.

Sincerely,
