First off, I wouldn't have posted this here as the truck isn't down BUT my wife is in the hospital :{ in the city about 45 min drive away, so read on and hope someone has suggestion.

160 k on truck in sig, RWABS only. I'm dirving into city of "brotherly love" on I-95, cruise on & going 60 mph. All is fine for first 20 minutes, like the 4th time since Saturday I've made this trip and all of a sudden it's like I tapped the brake? I feel the truck slow (for 2 maybe 3 seconds) long enough to look down to dash gage cluster and the speed picks right back up? I look back up to the road and wonder "what the heck was that all about? Never happened before?" Then I look back to the cluster and notice ABS + Brake lights are on, GREAT! Turn off cruise and go for next exit - testing brakes first - all seems fine? Take the ramp down and then swing back up other side heading opposite direction to go back home. Brakes are working fine? Drop truck at home, get in sedate wifey mobile (01 Volvo, XC-70 - yes it's a turbo but still a sled - like driving a friggin sofa:{) and head to hospital. When I return home (it's dark - of course) I scan for codes, of course no CEL so no codes. I check fluid - fine, all connections to ABS stuff under hood - nothing loose, check rear height sensor and all lines for leaks - even though fluid is fine - not a damp spot anywhere.

Any ideas? Is there a fuse that could have blown and caused this - Help:{:{:{

There should be a fuse in the power distribution box under the hood. On 3rd gens its on the drivers side, I don't know about 2nd gens.

Pull the sensor out and make shure its not damaged. There is another thread here that another person is asking about 2nd gen ABS. I know that Bob4X4 replied to check for a certain amount of ohms through the sensor

Thanks - now that it's daylight and I can see I'll be checking things out - starting with fuses and then going over connections. thanks again.

Just checked wiring diagram in shop manual to locate fuses: one 40a in engine compartment center - it's fine (removed and read thru w/ohm meter) and a 10 (forget rating) in the passenger compartment - it's fine too. Checked all plug connections, under hood @ rwabs module and on rear speed sensor - all tight and firmly seated.

Any other ideas? ? ? Off to visit wife in the sedate sofa mobile:rolleyes:

? Is your speedometer working correctly?

If your speedometer isn't registering either, then I would suspect the sensor in the rear diff.

My 99 V10 has similar symptons, and that is what fixed it.

My 98. 5 was doing the same thing... basic brake function works fine, no codes, no CEL, fuses good and speedo worked from 0 to full speed. Replaced the rear wheel ABS sensor on top of the rear axle ($60 from dealer, $20 from rockauto.com if you can wait for shipping) and all is fine and dandy. The newer sensors come with a small pigtail wire to plug into the stock end since the new sensor input plug is pointing 180 degrees (opposite direction from the oem plug. Works fine. Hope it helps.

JApol thanks for the link - for $10 I'm going to give it a try.

RRees & p-Bar - Speedo works fine.

rotohead - 98. 5 and 99 are so close it's got to be the problem.

Wierd thing is just a little blip in speed and then back on cruise? Gotta go for the sensor - I'll read it through first to be sure.

Thanks for everyone's reply - I'll be sure to post findings/fix. Thanks again. "I love this place!"

Just checked ohms "0" thru the sensor. From one lead wire to the other nothing, from one lead wire to ground 180 or so, and from the other to ground nothing. 0 @ thru sensor = open = bad unit yes? I guess I should pull pan and shcek to see if there's pieces of parts floating around, eh? just to be safe . . .

Better safe than sorry, a couple quarts of your favorite gear oil is a lot cheaper than a couple gears of your favorite metal :p

Yep!R

RWABS Speed sensor it was - $22. 50 my cost @ dealer - BINGO!

An update on reading ohms: I read new one before I installed it and it read "0", I'm like WTF! a bad new one? So I take the old out and when I set it down I noticed it "attracted" to a wrench close by. It's magnetic!!! So I put meter leads on new and move towards a wrench and got an ohm reading - whew. When I moved away from the wrench the ohms went to 0.

So, all is well w/truck. Thanks.
