Helping out a buddy his truck is a 99 2500.

the ABS & brake light on the dash are always on when the truck is on. The speedo doesn't register until 20mph. Are these related?

Does anyone have the part # for the rear ht. sensing proportion valve TSB #05-04-98? I believe this is a replacement part.

yep

The same thing happend to my buddy's Durango. I'll see if I can get a part number. I want to say it is the same sensor...

My 99 2500, 104K just started the exact same thing. ABS and BRAKE light are always on and the speedo does not register until 25-30 mph. What is the solution?

My 99, 2500 w/40,000 miles just started the same thing this past weekend. ABS lite and brake lite on, and speedo works periodically. Looking for ideas. Thanks Brad

The ABS-Brake light thing is an ABS sensor that attaches to the rear axle. The speedo problem is a sensor in the transmission. They must be wired together (shared circuit) or something with all the people telling about both happening at once.

ABS/Speedo/Cruise Control related

My '99 has 77K and it started doing basically the same thing, except my speedo doesn't indicate at all, and my C/C doesn't work. I checked the Chrysler repair manual. All the speed sensors fed into the ABS computer module, hens, if the speedo sensor goes inop none of it works.

I read in one message the other day that you can do a resistanc check on the sensors, but I'm not sure what the readings are supposed to be. I read 792ohms on the rear axel, and I go no reading on the transmission and fron axel sensors( at least I think those were the sensors)

My ABS and brake lights came on in March and the speedometer would not work in certain gears until it reached 5 to 10 mph and I took it to the dealer. My truck is an 01 with a five speed. The dealer put a new ABS sensor in the rear end. Problem fixed until the next day when something punched through the rear end cover. Dealer had to put a new rear end in my truck. Might check the rear end to make sure all is ok.

I just got this quarters magazine. THere just happens to be a couple articles about this problem. One suggest checking the speed sensor shaft. Apparently the square shaft has a tendance to get rounded and not turn with the gears. This is probably what is happening to those that have speedo for a short time. It's probably catching at low speeds then slipping as the speed increases.

Motofreak:

I just went through the same thing myself. Did a search on these forums and the answer was the rear abs sensor on top of the diff. The part was about $40 canadian at the dealer and took me about 15 minutes to change.

Some times the (speed sensor anti lock combo sensor on the top of the rear) can be simply cleaned. The worst may be the carrier bring are worn. I would change the oil in the rear clean the sensor with the cover off and check the carrier for access play with a pry bar. My friend broke the sensor trying to get it out to clean it and had bad bearings on the carrier anyway.

I just got done replacing my ABS sensor, cost me $58. 50 +tax at the dealer. Apparently this happens offten enough that the parts guy didn't even have to look up the number or the location. If anybody want's to try for an after market the OEM Part number is 56028187AE.
