Guys... ... ... it all started with that BIG RED "check engine" light right after XMAS, the flat belt was turning and there was no oil underneath my 1994 3/4T. (290K mi) By the time I got home to the ranch, I had YELLOW headlites and dash voltmeter indicating 9-volts. Next morning, quick diagnosed as alternator brushes. Went to buy some brushes and nobody would sell me brushes but would sell me a rebuilt alternator. (frown) I finally found an old mom'n'pop electrical store in downtown Tacoma. They replaced the brushes and check everything out. ($30, cheap) And then it SNOWED... . finally, sunshine and 11-in of snow, I re-installed the alternator after dropping one of the installation bolts. (frown) Then I couldn't tighten the battery clamp. Didja know they make lead "thimbles" that you can put over skinny battery posts so you can clamp old fashioned battery cables?

Now when I start my diesel, iff'n I don't letter idle fer 5-mins (?) BOTH the ABS and BRAKE lite will stay ON. Iff'n I'm in heavy stop'n'go city traffic, suddenly BOTH the ABS & BRAKE lites will come ON. I use my pick'em-up as daily driver altho being retired, I don't go ennywhere important. My midlife crisis RED MGB sportscar is my back'em-up. You know it really don't like snow either.

Before I go into the Dealer, I want to know what is going on and why. I checked the FUSE's and they're OK ... ..... TNX, Dell (WA)

My best guess would be that one of the front sensor wires got bumped, or something and now has a loose connection. Hopefully it is something simple at any rate.

It could be simple as brake light starting to go out, or a short near the brake lights.

IN the morning vacuum mite need to build up up ( one of the vaccuum check valves mite not be working. One is located at brake booster mthe other is located at vacuum pump. You mite have vacuum leak in engine compartment.

As far as not being able to tighten the battery clamp. Take off the battery clamp nut off the battery clamp bolt. Put 3 to 4 washers on the end of the bolt put the nut back on and tighten. (Old Backyard mechanic's trick. )

In the past there were dozens of threads about ABS lights. It could be the vacuum sensor on the front wheel well (maybe knocked the hose loose), ABS sensor in the pumpkin, or a wire with the insulation worn off. Take advantage of the search function and you will get quite a few hits I am sure.
