Started up my truck, ABS light stayed on and cruise control will not come on. I have looked, but can not seem to find a fuse for these items. Both were working fine the night before, then nothing. Coincidence, or related problem?

Herebytheowl,

Did you happen to hear a snap or crunch behind the steering wheel? See if you can hear anything loose or rubbing inside the column when you trun the wheel.

My truck lost its cruise contol and the *ABS light stayed on when my Clock Spring broke. This is just a ribbon type spring inside a plastic housing behind the steering wheel.

The dealer will need to hook up a diagnostic tool to diagnose it. If it is a broken clockspring, It'll be covered under warranty.

* Now that I think of it my Airbag light was illuminated when the clockspring broke. Not the ABS light.

Good luck

Thanks Hemi, That sounds like my problem, and it is my air bag light, not the abs. That's what happens when I try to use short term memory. I will call the dealer in the morning.

Week after I had my truck the clock spring broke and the air bag light and chime would go off when turning but would be fine going straight. Did not notice if cruise control worked or not. Dealer fixed under warranty.

The brake light switich is related to both system. The switich disables the cruise and has a sense wire for the ABS. You could have kicked it when you where getting in or out of the truck. If you test the switich use a test light. A VOM does not have enough resistance and could give you a false reading.

Don't know if this will help, but I just went through this with my Suburban.

Seems the wife backed into too many snowbanks and finally shorted out both the brake lights and the running lights via the snow packed trailer plug.

Brake circuit has input to cruise and ABS, hence in my case the idiot lights trying to tell me something was wrong.

Unfortunatly I went down the wrong path and ripped my car alarm apart thinking the relays had gone bad as the remote starter stopped working at the same time. Nope, brake switch is an input to the remote starter so it was inop also.
