My ABS light and Brake light are both on in the dash. I've checked the fluid level in the master cylinder, the pads are all close to new and the emergency brake is adjusted properly. The other day a kid pulled out in front of me as I approached at about 50 mph. I had to stand on the brakes and they did lock up and there was no ABS vibration in my pedal. I wonder if anyone could give me suggestions where to start without throwing a bunch of money at the wrong solutions? My truck is a 2001. 5 so it has discs on all 4 corners. Thanks!

It could be any of 3 sensors or chafed wiring. Get yourself an ohm meter. The rear speed sensor on top of the differential should ohm out to around 1800 ohms. The front 2 sensors (one on each wheel) I believe are around 600 ohms. A bad sensor will be way off these numbers or an open will show up.

I forgot another favorite. This one happens to me about once a year for some unknown reason. If you have a trailer brake controller I have unplugged the controller and then replugged and everything is ok. You can also unplug at the hitch receptacle.

Dave,

Thanks for the replies. I forgot that I had actually heard the unplug brake controller solution and tried that already without any change. Thanks for the other info. about using the tester. A friend of mine is going to try to fix it for me and this will be an excellent place for him to start looking. I told him I would look for input from this forum. Thanks again for the response!

I'm having the same problem on a 97 2500. I've had the truck going on 5 years and when I first got it and pulled my trailer, it blew the fuse for the brake lights. I was towing at night. No problem for the last 4 years but it blew the fuse again last night. Also, the brake and ABS light was on when I started out late yesterday afternoon but the brake lights were working. What else can trigger the ABS/brake lights when the sensors ohm ok? I used to be in the habit of killing the engine with my gas truck just before coming to a stop in my driveway and have caught myself doing that a couple of times with the diesel. Think maybe the canister has been depleted and if so, would that make the ABS/brake lights come on?
