My ABS light came on the other day while pulling our travel trailer. It has stayed on ever since... I checked the fuses and they all look good. I've been trying to search around the net for a solution, but I'm still not sure where to start. It looks like the ABS sensors tend to go bad. Is there a way to narrow down which one it is? I'm assuming there are 4 (one for each wheel)?

Some of you might remember my e-brake light has also been stuck on for a long time. I found a lot of posts saying they had their e-brake and ABS lights come on at the same time. Any chance this is somehow related?

Thanks!

There are three circuits for the ABS system- one for each front wheel and one for the rear axle ring gear. You can ohm them out at the ABS unit. Let me know if you need the wire colors.

If they are the same as 2nd gen (probably are) the wheel sensors are around 600 ohms, rear axle sensor around 1800 ohms. The rear sensor usually affects the speedo also. A front sensor could also be mechanical, bearing etc. I had a problem with the trailer hitch plug which lit my abs, I removed the plug that goes into the back of the trailer plug on the truck, cleaned and used dielectric grease which solved that problem.

Thanks for the advice so far. I could use a bit of help with the process of checking the sensors - that's charting new territory for me. If anyone has a diagram of the testing points or description of the procedure that would be great. I do have a capable multimeter.

I might try my the trailer plug first since it started while I was towing.

You can remove the harness from the ABS unit and test the wires for continuity. The left front is red/red w/ dk. blue tracer, the RF is white/ white with a dark blue tracer, and the rear axle is red/violet tracer and white/violet tracer.

I have the same problem on my 03. I hit the brakes on ice awhile back and both the ABS and Brakes lights have been all since. No codes. Brakes work but no ABS of course. CAn't get it to go away. David

The ABS will not set a code that you can read with the ignition key. If you can't ohm it out, then the dealer may be the next option.

What, no black tape available North of the border?????:D:D

Looks like the left front sensor is bad. Tested zero through left front, 1000 OHM through right front, and 1700 through the rear sensor. Thanks for the help with the wire colors. I'll pick up a wheel sensor and take it apart in the next couple of days.

Now I just have to find time to fix mine. I bought a new plug for the rear sensor today, P/N 5102408AA. Someone has already patched mine once before. It come with 6 loose wires, 2 white,2 blue and 2 black. I only need 2. I am guessing it is for multiple years and to use the same colours as what is there already. David

UPDATE:
That didn't help. It turned out to be the LF wheel sensor. Lights still on tho. I tried disconnecting the batteries but that didn't help either. David

Ok my problem is and sensor on passenger side abs wire got cut and did not work.changed sensor and now at very light braking when coming to a stop the abs sensor comes on. Is there a way to reset the abs system
