If your abs light comes on and you feel confidant that there's nothing wrong with your brakes, pull over and jack up the front and see if the front bearing are out! 70 miles one way to a job I was doing and coming home Friday last week, the light came on. Monday morning, I had to chase parts for the job and noticed the light went off. Out on the highway headed to the job, the light came back and I dismissed it as an electrical glitch and went on. Heading back home and out on the interstate, I noticed the truck was pulling to the left, like it was in an asphalt rut. It did it about 4 or 5 times, then I didn't notice anything until I got to town. About a mile from my house, the brake pedal got spongy and by the time I got to my driveway, I barely had enough brake to stop. After I got parked, I got out and checked the left front wheel and it was hot and smoking and I could smell burnt brake pad. I jacked up that wheel and it could wobble considerably. So, I missed a day of work today and put in a new unit bearing. After looking at youtube videos last night, I was really dreading the job but I guess the heat broke the rust bond up and I was able to seperate hub from it's mount. I bought two, but the other one won't be here until tomorrow. That one will tell me if I was correct in assuming the heat of the ruined bearing loosened things up! I have 250,000 miles on it now and I am wondering if that is about average longevity?

I have no idea if 250K is average longevity on these trucks since both of my Dodge trucks have not gone past 100K. It is gratifying to know however that when the ABS light come on, it means something is wrong.

Complete failures like yours are rare. They usually make enough noise to catch them before your caliper is trying to hold everything in place
